Apple Fans OSX Mountain Lion releasing today

I want to download but am waiting for my "up to date" code to get it free as I only got my MBP a few weeks ago.

The iMac upstairs (2007 model) is still on Snow Leopard and all works fine.

The MBP is my first experience of Lion and I really like it but have to say it seems to rely on the multitouch pad to be really effective, I bet on the iMac with a mouse it's nowhere near as good. It's a similar story with Windows 8 - crap on current PC's, needs new hardware to work well.
 
paradriod, ive also just submitted a claim as i picked up my mac pro in late may... i guess they'll turn me down but... may as well try.... hoping they'll have a heart!! on the other hand my moms new retina display model that i picked up for her as a gift is entitled to this free.... just to make me feel better i WONT be doing this for her, lol!!!

Steve Jobs was a visionary he made the ideas and concepts a reality. Tim Cook will make Apple more profitable than at any point in it's history.
That's the difference between then and now, pure geek with the ability to create the best toys in his imagination. Versus sharp strategist who knows how to make long term profits.
Apple will become more and more mainline with products that appeal to more and more users. Apple's days of being for the geek are over I'm afraid. IMO
 
With a mouse I think it'd be very limited - I have a Magic trackpad with my iMac and it works seemlessly - especially with the BetterTouchTool app.

I personally use Safari on everything because all my bookmarks are synced and I have never really experienced much of a speed difference between one browser and another. If you like Chrome stick with it, or just give Safari 6 a try, you don't need OSX Mountain Lion to get Safari 6 :thumbsup:

Totally agree
I use BetterSnapTool (not sure what the difference is), it's the one thing I checked compatibility with OSX ML before upgrading as I use it all the time :thumbsup:

I don't use it to much of an extent really! Main one is five-finger sleep, mainly because it looks cool :D should have a proper fiddle with it really

For serious work, the mouse is still my first choice. With a trackpad, you touch the pad, move the pointer, then you have to release your finger and click again to select your action.

With the mouse, you move hand and click. Simple.

You still have the multi gestures on an apple mouse, although not quite as many as a trackpad.
 
One thing they point out is the new full screen apps on an external display thing... well the last one did that or am I missing something?

There is more than one man behind a company tho, it was more his strive for perfection that ruled the company heart over mind, and the chase for zen. But you are right the days of Apple being alternative are over because they are so mainstream, but they will still be different. Apple is one of the best success stories of the last 30 years, hopefully they will continue to innovate and capture our attention, although in the last few years my Apple purchases have been minimal, as nothing has grabbed me like it used to... maybe because I have most Apple products lol

Its completely down to personal preference, I use both.

Track pads are poor for any serious work, mouse and wacom are my main tools. I hate track pads, you cant do anything that requires a delicate touch with them, but they are ok for general stuff I suppose. I dont like the magic mouse either its profile is far too small to work 8-10 hours a day with, and its not quite as accurate, I also find the wireless mice a pain because they eat batteries and feel quite heavy compared to the wired mighty mouse.But the magic mouse I end up getting a sore hand, ergonomically its not great. Still use the mighty mouse because of expose (desktop and app selection two very useful tools for quick workflow). Although it has lots of its own issue like the track ball getting stuck. Mice were never Apples strong suit lol

I use my macs mainly for logic pro. Might give Wacom a go to see if it benefits my workflow.
Don't spend anywhere near 8-10 hours on the computer though...... Unless I'm on the Z4 forum :lol:
 
Sounds good what kind of work do you do.

Well I work on macs all day designing artwork, 9-5 then recently had a lot of photographic work to do so been up until 2am and 3am the last two nights. My eyes sting lol... yesterday only had about 2 hours break for lunch and dinner but other than that 9am-3am :|

I'd up grade if I could. But the German village in which I live has 1000 homes, And about 750 DSL internet lines coming in. The best I could find is T-Mobile with an edge signal via USB dongle. That would be 250k speed and 3 gig per month limit. Makes it hard to down load a 4 gig program as i would run out gigs. And they don't offer a flash drive of ML either.

When you offer a full OS at £14 how will it not be! people will think might as well buy it at that price instead of the £100s that windows updates are.

It only took me about 20 minutes to download :poke:

I'm sure one of us could post you a copy on DVD/USB stick - on the assumption that you've already bought it from the AppStore.

Alternatively, next time you're out for a drive, how about driving to an Apple store (or internet cafe) and downloading it from your account there?

When I called the apple store in Frankfurt. They said I would have to bring in my Imac. They won't let me bring in a disc or flash drive. Seems stupid. As I could sign on to my account and buy it right before their eyes.
But I keep forgetting. This is Germany. If their handbook told them that putting a chicken up ones bum and signing camptown races was the only way to that you could download a file at the apple store. The clerk would tell you with a straight face and really mean it. That it just is not possible to download anything without the aforementioned chicken being up ones backside and then break out in song. I love living in Germany. But, Businesses here have zero initiative. And a lets get it done attitude is a totally alien concept to the Germans.

I guess I'll just have to wait for the flash drive option to show up in the appstore. Although I do have some friends from the states that just moved to Harrogate. Maybe Harrogate has the internet. In which case I may have an excuse for a road trip.

And yes MMM-five. You may have downloaded OSX in 20 minutes. But I bet you weren't doing 115MPH on the motorway without fear of a citation like I was today. :poke: "He says in jest"
