Who in their right mind is going to pay Apple £19 for a microfibre cloth...
iPolish.jpg

...and before anyone says it's fake jpg - look in the Apple shop
https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MM6F3ZM/A/polishing-cloth

...and, if you're stupid enough to buy it, in 6 months they'll tell that, in order to maintain compatibility with your new iPhone/iPad/iDildo, you need to upgrade to the £30 iPolish Pro cloth :P

Bargain compared to the £700 castors

All of our IT equipment is Apple and we love it but they are so greedy. We never buy any of their ancillary equipment like iPad covers etc because the prices are just ridiculous. We bought covers for our IPad minis for £7.50 each. Apple’s price for similar items was £65.00 each. Anybody who pays these prices must have more money than sense.

When I bought my Macbook pro and realised I needed an adapter to take a USB connection I asked for them to throw it in for free, was £19.99, and they point blank refused as "apple do not discount or give freebies."

Salesman asked if I was at uni (I was 56) and when I said no, asked if I knew anyone with a uni email address. Fiancée is a finance manager at Glasgow uni, gave him her email and got £300 off and a free set of Dr Beats headphones.

Go figure.

I did a stint of consulting at Ultimaker in NL a couple of years ago and there seemed to be a limitless budget when it came to all of the over-entitled, privileged little darling school-leaver interns being issued with Apple gear as standard, then asking for more iThings as time went on.
Ultimaker's overall design aesthetic echoes and cashes-in on the Apple design language so I suppose it only seemed appropriate for them to splurge on all that over-priced crap that Apple sells.
I remember asking the CFO about internal asset management/tracking/accounting and if there were any policies in place. His response: 'Don't ask'. I was issued with an Ultimaker 3 printer to 'take home and play around with to familiarise with our products' when I was there. I hardly used it, they never asked for it back when I left and it's sitting in a box somewhere. Bonkers.

Apple capitalises on this culture of 'need it, want it, gotta have it' not only by the consumer market but also where it occurs in the corporate sector.
Power to them. They have massive, enviable brand-loyalty so why not cash-in? That's a profitable business model in anyone's book!
However, most people who have any semblance or appreciation for value for money don't go near Apple products, including me. I think I was the only person at Ultimaker who was sitting in meetings using an Android tablet and being sneered at for it. Whatever.

Why is this news to anybody?

Apple has always had premium pricing (well since I started working on them in the late 80s anyway).

At that time, my work computer would have cost about 3 month's pay - now it's about 2 week's pay - bargain :P

Moved away from Apple years ago on their phones, overpriced and overated me thinks. I did look at their MacBook Pro when replacing the laptop but went with a Dell XPS. I think it was reading somewhere the glossy exteriors with Apple hide low rent internals which put me off for some reason.

I briefly thought of an iPhone when I was replacing the phone last month but went with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and love it. Think Apple has missed a trick with foldables.

Tim.

I've always made a point of avoiding Apple products ever since I bought Mrs Tidy an ipod because they aren't compatible with anything else.

I had to copy music from CDs as MP3s for the PC and my Samsung mp3 player then a 2nd time in an Apple compatible format. :headbang:

Although since we parted it's no longer my problem!

Ditto Mr T. I have never bought any apple products because they have always been expensive for no gain AFAIAC. Then when my daughter passed her 11 plus, we said we would buy her a 'quality tablet' as a present. Due to peer pressure (she didn't know any better), only an ipad would do. I was not happy about it, but under duress bought her one. It has sat in a drawer unused for years because she spends every waking moment glued to her Samsung Android phone. I knew it would be a waste of money. Even she has come around to my way of thinking and won't buy Apple products.

Apple accessories are seriously over priced.
However, in apples defence I will say the following.
A recent video on Linustech looked at the inside of apple of apple computers and found that the cost of components isn’t actually inflated.
Their customer service is usually fantastic.
I’ve just ordered a new iMac after deciding that 11 years on my current iMac is enough. That’s 11 years of working on it every single day and it still runs!

Your pays your money and make your choices.

I wouldn’t pay that for a microfibre cloth, but I have spent 2k on a computer which will last me 10 years.

This is spot on. As for "low rent internals" that is not true at all. Sure they may use 3200 RAM instead of 3600 that you get in a PC but in general they work fast and consistent over their lifetime. I have owned a 3 Mac's and probably 15 PC's/laptops... the Mac's outlive the PC's by a long shot, every time. Sure they are expensive, but they do last longer. The latest Apple CPU's are a game changer as well...

In reply to the comment about the ipad being say in a drawer, I have an Android tablet sat in our drawer.... absolutely hate it... maybe we should swap, lol!

I have to smile at the irony that on a BMW forum we’re complaining about price gouging for branded accessories… Ever taken a look at the prices of all the branded knick-knacks in your local stealers? I shudder what to think an “MSport” polishing cloth would go for. :D
