Apple announcement

Browsing on the new phone.
I love the speed. My 3GS really was just getting too clunky.
The maps aren't too bad in my area but when I look at the area I grew up in it looks like they took the satellite photos at night.... They really need to get updating ASAP. Meanwhile it's best to have a google maps link.

Agree compared to my old 3g the speed of the 5 is brilliant.

I don't know whats up with the maps but if I browse the Satellite maps for my area theyre just completely blurred :( and unuseable. Theyre fine for other areas, love the 3D at say New York, buildings jump out at you.

Wohoo, sim arrived this morning, restored to my new 5 and its up an running!

Seems much the same as my 4s, just prettier!

is it just me or does it feel too light. i like a bit of weight in a phone as it makes it feel less tacky. this iphone is going to be a pick pockets dream

OS6 has stolen my YouTube app and the map data is now from TomTom - did Apple and Google fall out ? As said above, the satellite images are crap compared to Google, at least of my area.

:x

Apple have dropped Google (they're competitors) but there is an official youtube app already in the appstore and the iPad still plays youtube stuff just fine.

I'm finding it a bit on weightless side but I have real concerns over durability, its not a patch on my old 3g. Whilst it looks the part, slick and all that, I can see the anodised black finish wearing off in next to no time if you don't have a case. There are already reports of the black finish tarnishing along with manufacturing faults. Wish my case would hurry up through the post.

I think Apple have made a serious boo boo

Yeah, knew they compete, taken them a while though. Must go hunting for the app - wasn't obvious when I looked. Ta Stu

The picture of the Covent Garden Apple store queue looked like the job seeker queue :D

Now seriously pi$$ed off - the new map app is crap. Used to just be able to type in something like 'tunbridge wells RFC' and get a pin or two on the map. Now, 'no locations found' :headbang:

Oh, and clicking on a google map on a web page doesn't seem to open it in google maps anymore. Prats. I'm going to start using Chrome or iPad in protest.

i know what you mean. it doesnt feel as good quallity as the older models. since most of the weight saving has been made by the new case design, i recon it wont stand up well to drop tests etc.

Bit of a kick in the balls when they charge almost double for something that isn't even as we'll put together.

On the point about brand loyalty. I don't get why people show such loyalty to any company that realistically give nothing or very little in return. It's not enough to say 'their products just work" or "they make reliable stuff". A product should be reliable and work, it's the least of my expectations. My life is full of reliable products that work and only a small number of those are Apple products. Do I feel loyalty to any of those brands? No.

That probably tells you people have had plenty of non apple phones and computers that were unreliable or full of hassle and probably had a much poorer build quality/ tactile feel.

Popped into the Apple store on Saturday just for a nose at the new iPhone..... Wasnt sold on it at all really. Its waaaaaay to light, really doesnt feel like a quality product at all, and after using Android, I just find the user interface a bit "clunky". I know, I know, thats usually the complaint iPhone users have over Android, probably as im not used to iOS.

I also found the phone uncomfortable to use. By making the screen longer I found it harder to stretch my thumb up to the top of it, (or bottom of it) without moving my hand. Yeah the display is lovely, but a lot of phones are catching up now. But for me the real killer to be honest was the "feel" of it and the weight of it. It really didnt feel like a premium product.

Didnt get to experience the new ear pods. My mate was with me who has a iPhone4, he has decided not to upgrade, said there isnt anything new really or worthy of an upgrade, he also felt it was too light. He went and got a HTC One X instead!!!!

all the review sites have been hammering it. even the gadget show says its not the best phone at the moment :o from all the online polls, looks like the lumia 920 is the phone of choice for the non brainwashed geeks. cant wait to see what apple do next year, with the amount of criticism around this one, doing the predicted iphone 5s with minor upgrades may not cut it now the competition have caught up

going to be a good time for the consumer in 2013 :D
