AP Brakes.

A month or so ago I asked AP a few brake questions. Anyway, one thing led to another and today AP fitted front and rear calipers to my car. It is almost the M3 kit - just a slightly shallower bell and a 3mm worth of spacing on the caliper mounting bracket. AP will be including these changes in a kit specifically for the Z4M.

The brakes/pads are not bedded in yet so too early for a score but I will report back after my Ring trip this week. Having said that the weight saving is about 2.5 kgs on each front corner.

Sorry these are just from my mobile. Will take a better one soon!

Price wise I reckon Simpson Motorsport will do the best deal. I was fortunate in that AP had never fitted their kit to a Z4M and used my car as a fitting test bed and therefore gave me a healthy discount.

The calipers will fit under standar 18 inch wheels but it is extremely tight. SO much so that even the wheel balancing weights will hit the wheel if mounted in the normal position.

Possible but very tight. AP said they would not recommend.

What pads are you using? I use Ferodo's for daily use, low dust, no noise but crap on the track! For track days I use Pagid RS29's, lots of dust, quite noisey but brilliant on the track! The difference between the two is quite dramatic so unless you head to the track with the right pads all that cost provides very little improvement. :driving:

Yum yum yum yum..... :)

Will be interested to hear your results from them (but I expect they will be fantastic!)

Didn't know that they didn't have a kit already though! Thought we had, what are effectively the CSL brakes, so figured the CSL kit would bolt straight on. Damn... another discount opportunity missed :P

I'm still drooling over the ceramic kit I found before - but I think the APs are going to provide a much more cost-effective option!

Simpson's have a kit listed with 'slightly thinner calipers that fit under the stock wheels' for £1675+VAT.

Thats the kit I use. I still had clearance issues with the rims at the front so I fitted 10mm spacers. I could have used 5mm and got away with it but 10mm looked better!
