Anyone with flappy paddles want to try something?

I've got a 435xd and with the car in sport+ and manual gear shifting if you are pootling along in say 7th gear and put you foot hard on the accelerator the car will lumber along trying to gain speed while staying in 7th. If however you then touch the change down paddle the car goes straight to the lowest gear possible

Just wondered if the auto / dct boxes in the Z4 did the same.

Obviously care should be taken when trying this as you tend to pick up speed quite quickly :D

I'm not sure why you are in Manual mode and expect an Auto change ?

In our 335xd which I think has the same box, kick down in auto just whacks it down to the lowest possible gear. I tend not to use the flippers!

Aye you wouldn't expect it to and it could catch some folk out if you think you're switching down 1 gear and it drops 3 or 4.

I'm in auto mode 99% of the time - but then I'm just lazy :driving:

I think the sport + might be the thing to watch !
Like you, I rarely bother with the flippers.

Pritty sure in manual mode my M135i kick down doesn't do anything until you pull the paddle, then it drops to the lowest gear

It should drop a few cogs. I think the purpose of the kickdown is a safety override.

In cars with low power "eco" modes that limit power the kickdown will override the limiters, same with the speed limits you can set.

You should not make a habit of this as you cause the engine to labour which creates additional strain
