Anyone want to swap a clean E46 M3 for Z4M/Z4M C

Plus cash of course. I have a Carbon Black 2002 E46 M3 with 58k genuine miles, thoroughly checked over by a main dealer and with a years MOT. Definitely not the usual rubbish.

I have no need for four seats and hopefully someone here is in the opposite situation.

Z4M can be Roadster or Coupe but main requirement is that it MUST have DSP/Logic 7. The M3 by the way has a grand's worth of Rainbow speaker upgrade too.

Hi Sharkman,

Welcome to the Forum

I have no need for four seats either but I think it might be worth your while to post some recent photos of your M3 and more information on service history, extras etc as people would if they were selling their car on here.

Best of luck with the swap.

Like-for-like, I calculate you'd need to be adding about £5k-£6k for a Z4MC and about £4k-£5k for a Z4MR - based on an average price of £9k for your's.

Are those the sort of figures you'd be happy to pay to swap?

£4-5k to change to a Z4MR? I'd have thought on an 02 plate you'd be looking at more like a £6k-7k change, personally.

Just a back-of-a-fag-packet calculation based on Autotrader 'asking' prices as I know a lot of private sales don't get the advertised asking price, but those were bottom-end figures of course - with no sat-nav :poke:

If the OP is not happy spending £4k extra, then £6k-£8k extra will be out of the question too :)

Hi, I had figured about £4-5k additional for a nice car with sensible miles. My ad is here. As I would imagine is the case with 'Z's too, probably 85% of M3's out there are rubbish. I looked at six before buying mine and the one I eventually bought I had inspected no less than three times, including by a main dealer because I was so paranoid. Despite the main dealer history, I have had a few things done over again for my satisfaction as I know main dealer stamps can also often reflect the bare minimum.

I have just reduced the price to bring it in line with trade value, which I have confirmed with a couple of independent traders. Both reckon this price is spot on, a few M3 people have suggested £9k is too cheap for the miles and condition, but I'd be happy with a sensible deal. Very few traders have cash these days, they all want to sell on a commision basis or take mine in at this and sell me an overpriced ZM which is unlikely to have been cared for as my M3 has. I'd rather strike a private deal with someone like myself who is an enthusiast so we would both know we are getting a good car.

My car also has £1000 worth of high end audio (all stealthily installed so no outward signs) - I spend a fair amount of time in the car hence why DSP is important to me.

There are tons and tons of M3's for sale at £7k-£8k, but most have 90-100,000 miles plus and most are thrashed examples. I think I have priced mine fairly. Thanks for any replies.

Thats bloody lovely. If you change your mind, and just want a 3.0i, give me a shout!! :P

Thank you. Does it have DSP? I think I'd miss the power and handling of the M3 though.. more than one person has said to me I'm mad. A good M3 is a rare thing these days..

Very nice car but I wouldn't trade my 2.5i for it purely based on loving the looks and roadster features of my Z.

Thanks again guys, just to make it clear, it really has to be an M. I'm used to the performance and even though 3.0's are nice, the only reason I would let such a good car go is for an M. Cheers

Dammit for only having a 3.0!

9k for a pre face lift, pre vanos issue car. Nice if u can get it, but if hark only got 13 or under for a MR and an 07 plate if memory serves it just doesn't add up to me!?

:P Don't get me wrong, I love them too but after an E39 M5, Z3M Roadster, E60 M5 and driving my brothers' Z4M I'm now a bit spoiled by the 'M' cars!

I'm not that familiar with MR and MC prices, but basing the price of mine on what M3's are out there and the mileages (most of which are 80-90k). A lot of M3's advertised also dont have the specific M3 type Conti's which are tailored to the car. I did get an offer of £9000 on mine about a month ago (when I was advertising for £10k) but wasnt sure I wanted to sell at the time (and there didnt seem to be any decent Z4Ms around). I certainly would not go below £9k for mine, it honestly is too good a car for that and I have spent a fair bit to make sure the car is perfect. No vanos noises, subframe checked, one year MOT on it (MOT tester commented the underside was like a three year old car).

Anyway, I welcome comments and if I dont find a Z4M I still have a great car which I know is 100% sorted and reliable so I wont be too upset if I have to stay as is.

Problem you've got is that E92 M3V8's are now at silly prices too.. some members are moving that way for extra seats.

I assume you mean POST VANOS issue :poke:

The VANOS 'issue' is still around - even on the latest S54 in the Z4M. But it's significantly reduced to what it had been as most of the causes have been rectified in later versions.
