Anyone used Gtechniq C5 Ceramic Wheel protector

Just wondered if anyone on the forum had used this product before?

I’ve ordered some which I’m going to try on a set of 108’s, and whatever I buy as my ‘day to day’ wheels.

Not the wheels but have it on the body work and use the top up spray and it’s brilliant stuff. Wouldn’t expect the wheel product to be any lesser quality.

I’ve just put this on my new 276’s before they had tyres fitted.

I think it’s fantastic stuff, a quick wipe with a damp cloth takes everything off it an back to original finish.

I toyed with what size to get and bought the 30ml to be sure - was glad I did as I used more than half the bottle on the one set. I did all external surfaces as per instructions. I paid £37 for the 30 ml

There’s also not enough lint free pads in the box. I’d bought some separately as it made no mention of them being with the liquid

How much does it cost?

It’s about £22 for a tiny amount, but if used properly is sufficient to do two sets of wheels inside and out.
Ouch! I detest doing wheels though.

I thought that too and took ages to decide whether to buy or not but can honestly say it’s one of the few products I’d completely endorse and recommend ad worth the money

Don’t even need to wash them, a wipe down with wet microfibre cloth after a run and sorted

I removed all 4 wheels to give them a proper clean and degrease before applying G5 about 2 months ago, turns out there was only enough product to do 3 of them!!! But then thought that would be a good opportunity to do a proper comparison between a treated and untreated alloy. Did it all by the book in the garage to ensure they didn’t get wet in the subsequent 24hrs.

Honest opinion is that there is certainly not the dramatic difference I was expecting. The wheels still seem to get the same amount of brake dust on them which can’t be simply washed off with a hose like some suggest. I certainly wouldn’t buy it again.

I used Carbon Collective Platinum Wheels which is very similar. The difference I've noticed is that over time the bits of tar and dirt that appear in alloys still come off pretty easy.

Prior to using a product like this my CSL reps had marks I couldn't get off no matter what product I used, especially in the tight corners. 1 year on and my alloys are spotless after a proper clean. Before, there was always some bits that would just not come off...especially in the barrels.

For the sake of £22 well worth the money. Just make sure you take the time to apply correctly.

I used C5 on my 224s a year ago. It still does it’s job well, dust does not stick to the laquer and most dust just rinses off, regular wash with wheel woolies and mf mitt. As Argyll Andy mentioned, I’d also recommend the larger bottle. I had the wheels off, properly cleaned (clayed, polish, IPA) to strip off old wheel wax and did also the barrels.

You can buy 100 make-up removal pads from Superdrug or any Chemist for a small cost. Exactly the same product.

 thanks, I wasn’t sure if they were the same - hell of a lot cheaper too

Thanks for the input gents.

I’ve ordered the 30ml bottle in the end.

I want the option of returning my car to standard, so I’ve acquired a properly immaculate set of 108’s that were refurbished at a cost of over £600 (not by me!!) I’m probably going to keep them in reserve, but want to get them coated so that if I do use them I can keep them looking good.

This is a garaged, weekend car, that will be SORN’d through the worst winter months, so more of a precaution really.

I keep a bottle of IPA, as always comes in handy for this sort of thing. I normally use it after machine polishing to make sure all the compound is completely removed.

I’ll use a fallout remover on them, then IPA wipe down before applying. I’ve used various nano paint sealants before, and I think the application method is very similar.

I’d second this. Neither mine nor my girlfriends wheels get particularly dirty but I was expecting the dust to rinse off with far greater ease.

Perhaps the only noticeable difference is because I only had enough to do the front wheels, those two are definitely glossier than the rears.

I’m not expecting miracles, more that it’s easier to keep the wheels properly clean, especially around the bolts which collect brake dust leading to corrosion.

I use Bilberry wheel cleaner, which is PH neutral, but it’s still hard work on ingrained brake dust. All I’m hoping for is that the ceramic coating makes cleaning the brake dust off with a soft brush easier.... I’m not expecting a contactless wash

Here's how I apply it at my shop..... However the normal hand applied route I get is easier for the consumer . I suppose many would say I am biased but I find the product excellent .. another great option is kkd revolve.

If help or advice needed drop me a line .

I suppose much of this is down to how dirty your wheels get and how often you clean them. Mine hasn’t yet got to a point where brake dust has become ingrained or in any way stubborn so perhaps I’m less likely to see the true benefit of such a coating.

Regardless, I’d say a ceramic coating is worth a try and if you see a benefit it’ll likely last far longer than any wheel sealant or wax.

Thoughts on the G5 three months on???
Still the same as before, wheels still get covered in brake dust very easily but wipes off easily and looks great with a wipe with a damp cloth. I carry a small spray bottle of car wash mix and some disposable cloths in the boot for when we’re away to wipe down the wheels at the end of the day (god knows when I’ll be needing them again!)

Wheels still look like brand new when cleaned after 3k with this applied. Would definitely put it on any new sets of wheels I buy.

One small negative, larger 30ml bottle only does one set of 19’s not two like they advertise
