Anyone use the BMW ipod lead?

Seems to me that they couldnt have put the connection in a worse place! Is there away of connecting the ipod in a more subtle place? Glove box maybe and hide the wire? Looks really untidy when plugged in! :headbang:

You need an Intravee ...

I've got an mp3-enabled CD multi-changer there, but I've stuffed a load of mp3s onto CDs so that I don't have to mess around with anything - or not until I decide I want to be able to watch DVDs on the sat-nav screen and find the relevant TV module, etc. available for buttons.

The CD/MP3 thing (while an interesting idea) is not ideal here in my opinion. The point of the lead is so I can view Ipod track names and artists via the sat nav screen. What is that thing you have by the DVD player?

Also - does my sat nav DVD player play DVD's in the car? Or have the ability to?

The intravee lets you use the built-in controls of the car to control the ipod and also displays the mp3 tag data on the screen.

The sat-nav dvd player only runs sat-nav dvds as far as I know, so an extra DVD/HD media player would need to be installed somewhere.

Just put one in mine too, along with a brand new 120gb ipod just for the car..

Love it, the integration is brill, but it's going to take a bit of getting used to, there's a few quirks.

Andy - make sure you have the latest software release. I got that and it made a load of difference ...

I confuse. Mine's the BMW lead but it's in the glovebox - is that not where everyone's is?
My main irritation is how easy it is to forget and leave the ipod playing when you park the car; come back later to find it has no battery until you go for a long drive again.

Are you sure you have the BMW one, I would have thought it would power down the iPod like the Dension unit does.

Can I tell without plugging it in? Can't find my serial cable yet after a house move...

My AUX point is below the climate control...

I have another complaint. Instead of buying a £10 cable for the ipod, i bought the £50 one from BMW after being told that it would give me full functionality via the sat nav. No such luck!!! Am i doing something wrong here? The ipod plays fine but i have to change the songs from the Ipod using its pathetically small wire! Unless i have a problem with mine, i would advise anyone NOT to waste their money on it.

Also, does anyone know how the bluetooth and sat nav works with SMS? The book says i can read text messages etc but i cant see the function on the screen...

On one of the Intravee menus it shows the software version number (should be version 6.00.484 or 900 or 985).

If you suffer from "blank screen" symptom in the "now playing" section, that will fix that one.

Ah, yes I've had that. Guess I need to find that cable then.

Mr Smith - I put my Aux there deliberately.. I think it's the best place for it. If you desperate you could relocate it .. that panel is cheap to replace.

I'm afraid it sounds like they've sold you a £50 aux cable which is a bit scandelous.. only a fiver from somewhere like Maplins. Does it look like like a headphone cable at both ends? If so, it's just carrying the sound so that's all it will do.

We're talking about the Intravee (discussed also elsewhere) which is brilliant.. mount it somewhere in the boot and it controls the ipod (mines in the centre console like pvr's), lets you search, charges it, etc. Costs about £200 plus fitting (hour or so) or cheaper if you're lucky, there's a few on ebay for 160ish at the moment.

Thanks for your response. I understand your points (and new this before). I have a headphone jack at one end and Ipod connection at the other. Can the aux point be replaced with USB because that would solve it....

No, it can not and that cable can indeed not provide charging.

return the cable if you can, and put the £50 towards the intravee. it sounds like nothing else will live up to what you're after.

I think you'd be right!! Is it easy to install? - I am crap at technical stuff btw!

It is all interior panel work only. The installation electrically is plug and play (i.e. plug in CD changer lead, that is it! ).
