This one aint for the M boys!

Does anyone use gulf competion 0w-30 oil in their motor?

Due an oil change soon. Currently use redline 0w-30 but was thinking of giving this other ester based oil a go but cant find many reviews of it on the net. Cheers

Perhaps - that's what I'm trying to figure out. Going by the specs they are very similar. But noone seems to be using it.

Stick the the BMW approved Oils I would suggest. A Small saving now could end up with a big bill later.

X2

I recommend Shell Helix Ultra 5w-30, paid about £60 for 7l from opies last month. Used it twice now with no complaints.

Is the shell approved to the BMW spec? Notice you have an si Jan..do you get the lifter tick? You see I ran the BMW recommend castrol and the motor tapped like mad! Switched to a different oil and no more ticking.

Yes it is BMW Longlife-04 / BMW LL-04 approved.

No tapping, but I have been using my car regularly. Just had its oil service at 60k. Was doing 20k a year but now have a new job and only use it once or twice a week. Fingers crossed mine will fine. :( it's been alright over the last four months

glad youve had no tapping..i travel short journies mostly and thats the what the tapping loves unfortunately.

on another note does anyone think that say 1 year/5000 miles would be enough to warrant an oil change/change the properties of any oil so that they would not be as good as they should?

For anyone who is intrested in this thread, I went for the Gulf oil in the end and I am pleased. No tapping to date so amongst other things I would rate it as being up there with the Redline I had previously filled up with. Out.
