Anyone use classic car insurance

Per thread title,

Does anyone use a classic car insurance policy for their Z4?

My Mrs wants a 2 seater, but doesn’t want to sell her current car for practicality reasons. She only has one set on no-claims, as do I.

I’m considering putting my own Z, or her new one (if she buys one), on a classic policy as I ‘believe’ this should solve ‘no spare no-claims’ problem?

Any input welcome

Yes.

Adrian flux guaranteed agreed value.

Don't think it cost any more than normal insurance, just a bit more hassle what with form filling and taking photos.

Thanks, I’m guessing this was limited mileage, but no need to use previous ‘no claims’ ?

I have Norton insurance, guaranteed value and limited mileage of 1500 in my case (the minimum as I only do about 500)

£70

That is on a 29 year old Golf

I think you just tell them what miles you think you'll do, like with normal insurance. It doesn't have to be a tiny number. Think ours is set to 4000. And they do take into account no claims to work out the premium, like normal insurance.

It's only different with respect to the value of the car and how easily it will get written off if it has an accident (very easy with normal insurance).

For my classic mini, I got a valuation certificate for it from the British mini club. It's about £12k which is far, far higher than the value a standard insurance policy would place on a 32 year old car. However I don't know how to get a valuation certificate for my z4, does the BMW club do that?. For the mini I use footman James who were superb.

When I took out my policy with Chris Knott all they wanted to see was evidence of the NCD I had on my other car. The Insurer is Highway (LVE). I haven't tried the agreed value route.

When I got my first Z4 I only had one NCD so used it on that.

But when I bought a daily driver to go with it my local A-Plan office found me a policy with an insurer who would mirror my NCD, so that may be another option.

I have A Plan via the BMW Club GB as a fixed value and we had no no-claims as on other cars. Now have coming up 3 years. The last 2 years have been a premium of £200 for this policy. Luckily I walk into A Plan as they are across the road from my house , so face to face ( before covid !) was always good for me. They used to insure other weekend cars of mine but were never close to the usual suspects for daily vehicles.
