Been looking at Bike Racks for the Z4 and came across the Saris Superbones 3 (£290 - £325 depending on where you look).

Anyone tried it out?

Seen a few pics of them fitted to e85s on here. I think ChrisD has one. They seem to work well

I’ve got a solo and it does a good job. Just make sure the paintwork is really clean as the pads could grind on the dirt otherwise

In short no I have never put a rack on mine... you will get a 55cm roadbike in the boot with the wheels off and forks dropped out though. Only a 5 minute job when you come to put it back together.

Not always practicle though, especially if you have other luggage in the boot

Seems there may be some confusion with the Bones and the Superbones....

I have a saris bones 3 on my e85. Fits fine and secure. Bike wheels in boot, means lights and plate are not covered so no need for a lighting board either.
I did fancy the superbones because of the retractable straps but could not justify the cost on top of the standard saris bones models.
Sorry but I never got a photo of it in place as was too keen to get on the road to my sportive.
One thing I did do was use superglue some old inntertube to create patches on the inside of the metal hooks on the end of the straps to protect the paintwork from being scratched.

Was wondering how I can justify the cost of the Superbones too!

Will probably go for the Saris Bones 3 and cover the clips.

There are pics of the Saris Bones 3 on the Google.

I have Saris Bones 3 that I use on my Mercedes E-Class and also recently started to use some old inner tube inside the clips to protect paintwork whre they hook on although the clips have never caused any damage previously. I also use magnetic GB plates under the feet (after cleaning the body work first).

We only have Euro or Scottish flags on the plates up here. None of that GB or blood soaked butchers apron pish. :fuelfire:

I should have said other inferior country magnetic badges are also available. You have to be careful with these though, you get the impression they don't want to stick to the main body but when push comes to shove they end up sticking afterall :poke:

Have you tried the seasucker bike rack I have one and it's superb looks the business and can be removed in 20 seconds tops

Seasucker would be good.

Perhaps you can suggest where I stick it onto the car as I have a Roadster which had a softtop the last time I checked..... :poke:

Goes to check....

Yes it still has a softtop!

Haha I seen 3.0si and just assumed it was a coupe. Just stick it on the bonnet it's long enough

Hahahaha

Will have a look in the local Halfrauds this afternoon for the Bones 3 as I can't justify the £300+ for the Superbones. Can always sell the Bones 3 for about £100 on eBay if I change my mind later.

Used a saris bones on my z4 last Friday. It worked, make sure you do all the straps up tight and make sure they are seated properly to stop them popping off.

Also, I’ve spent the afternoon polishing off the small scratches that were left by the feet of the rack - so I’d make sure the paintwork is clean and possibly put a thin cloth between the car and the feet to stop it scratching in the future.

Bought a new Saris Bones 3 as the eBay prices are a bit nuts.

It's till in the box as I've not had time to get it onto the car or get the bike out.

Yep, well spotted Mon Mar.
Have been using a bones 3 for a while now and it works perfectly.
Have had 2 bikes loaded up and they didnt budge, even when traversing annoyingly bumpy dutch speedbumps!

I use that rubber antislip mat stuff between the 4 feet and the zeds paint and also as others have done, sheath the hooks with old bits of rubber biketyre innertube.

Superbones seems superfluous to me designwise and not really worth the premium.
