There's immersing and then theres diluting - unfortunately people, cultures and religions don't mix - Hence the many silo'd communities across the country (and this thread)

Just the opinion of somebody thats lived here for a long time but isn't from London originally.people and cultures seem to mix okay 98% of the time where I live and if its not completely then its on the understanding that people are different and thats okay too. Not sure what experience you're referencing unless you've had a bad experience personally of course.
 
I'm from the West Midlands, which in some places is a diverse as london, but I did live in London for just over 6 years until 5 years ago.

New cross, Shepard's bush, notting-hill, islington and clapham to name a few

I didn't see much mixing, well unless you just mean people living on the same road / area but not conversing?

I must admit I get fed up of the lazy stereotyping when this debate crops up (as it does from time to time).

Anybody who opposes further immigration is castigated as a "daily mail reader" by ignorant left-leaning people who are just as closed to other people's opinions as those expressing them from the other end of the political spectrum.

Whether you are for or against further immigration controls I tell you one thing for sure - the party that isn't tough in its manifesto at the next election will be the one that loses.

The same debate is going on in every developed EU nation and you know what? Not everyone who opposes further immigration or wants tighter restrictions applied to other EU member states is a racist or a right wing bigot.

I appreciate this view. lots of stuff quoted on these threads is almost text book, but it's just that unfortunately, text book.

If I move to another country it'll be because I like that country, not because I want to change it.

My head is brown - loving the sunshine. Anyway, bet you've been out in your own 'vert a few times recently :wink:

I also like haggis. And no Ruby, it does not come with weird Japanese noodles...Some of it's ingredients probably look a bit like noodles before they get mushed up though :D
 
I wonder if JaxZ4 could bring me down a proper haggis to zedfest... That would be ace :D

Haggis is all over the place over here..
Some call it "road kill" ..
I just call it yummy ...
Although Id rate it behind Oatmeal Pudding and Blood Pudding ..

With regards to ethnic infusions ...
In Toronto I'd describe it more like small collections of ethnics in individual neighbourhoods ..
So you can go to Korea Town if you like their bill of fare. Local shops cater to that market as well. So a Korean pining for something tasty from over 'ome can get it.
The summer sees many local cultural festivals that often close streets for the party.
Assimilation can occur but the strays can always come back for a visit.
It's actually always been like that and I view it as a very positive thing.
Plus during the Euro Cup and World Cup, the party goes to new heights.

i dont think that rants over the lack of tax paying rich would carry quite the same cachet as moaning about immigrants - i read somewhere that underpaid tax is many magnitudes lager in terms of £ then ever we pay to scroungers of any race
