Anyone sold/traded similar car, looking to buy ?

I`ve replaced my daily driver (Focus tdci sport) with another shitter (Astra Twin top cdti) so will get my roof down kicks in that from now and want something a bit more track focussed that I can strip and not worry about abusing - probably a £6-8K high mileage E46 M3, I can tow it with the wife`s X3 if I really get the bug and move away from it being road legal.

So can someone help me put a realistic price to this or has somebody sold/traded something simillar ? I can see the prices on Autotrader/AUC site and my gut feeling is that BMW would retail the car at £19-20K, so was thinking they`d offer £16-17K but not beeing offered anywhere near that, I realise it`s not the best time of year to sell a roadster but spring isn`t too far away now, is it ?

Car is a June 2006 on 33K miles with a full BMWSH (7500 miles to next visit) including running-in service.
Excellent condition, with minor stone chips to front, OEM Conti`s all above 4mm even wear, 1 wheel with a scratch on it (not been curbed), good discs/pads and immaculate interior with no signs of wear.

Interlagos Blue
Black leather

Additional options :

BMW strut brace
extended storage pack
Aero rear spoiler
Sat Nav
Bluetooth
Hi-Fi
Heated seats
Folding Mirrors

I hope to be looking for something pretty much like what you're selling in a couple of months. Having looked at dealership prices, I reckon they'd have it at £18-19k, so maybe your trade in target is a little high.

The only thing that would put me off your car is the rear wing, I like the clean look, but otherwise it looks like a nice spec.

I quite like the colour but there again I had a Laguna Seca Blue M3 before it. :P

I guess I`ll have to see how main delaer prices fare over the coming months, it`s financed through BMW and if I let it go now at what they`re offering, the shortfall I`d have to pay would be enough to cover the payments on it almost to the point where I can hand it back and walk away, which is crazy - all it`s costing me to keep the car is the insurance and tax less the interest I earn on the cash I`d need to pay off the shortfall.

I think £16k-£17k is optimistic I'm afraid. BMW dealers in my experience are highly skilled at the art of taking the absolute ****! Many people must fall for it or they wouldn't try it. My guess is they are offering you £13-£15k? They always seem to try it on with 25%+ of room in it.

You will be able to fight for more if you have a particular car in mind to trade it for, but not many dealers will offer you good money for an outright purchase on a Z4M at the moment I don't think. All high performance cars have dropped faster than their four year balloon payments would suggest, so you aren't alone.

If it helps, back at Xmas 2008 when everything went tits up, I was offered £18k for mine. Paid £32k a year earlier. I was offered that for it again back in September 2010, so I have essentially had two years of free motoring. :) That's how bad sports car prices got

A BMW dealer who called regarding mine in September last year offered £15k 'cash' or £16k as part of any part-ex from their current stock.

I got mine 'valued' recently by webuyanycar.com just out of curiosity:

07 Interlagos roadster, 18000 miles - £13,500!

More of a p*ss-take than a dealer!

But at least you know how much you can get if you really, really need to sell quickly.

We buy any car is unrealistic tbh

I sold the TT for £3k more than it quoted.

I bought my z4MR 2 months ago. Private sale but every option Inc dsp and nav. 07 plate 38k paid £17750 with 12 month mot 6 tax.

It's in gd nick so I was happy.

That's ludicrously low though, he must have needed a sale quick....been offered more than that trade and mines a 56 with 39k. You got a steal, I'd love a Sepang one....

I saw 2 others, both cheaper, but the condition wasn't as good. They are a goodbuy though at these prices.

Nah, it has the aero rear spoiler fitted. I think the back look too plain without something on it (I quite like the ACS wings too).

I was offered £17K by 2 different BMW dealers 2 mths back against 1er coupes, I understand that was in part-ex but the price of the car`s I was trading for were already very, very good. Fortunately I`m not in a position where I have to offload it, so I guess it`ll sit in the garage a bit longer. :P

If you're open-minded about the track car... want to do a deal? :)

Admittedly the Evo isn't everyone's cup of tea, but you won't do much better on short tracks unless you're a RWD God in a Caterham :D

how depressing is all this???......... i cant help thinking prices are that low that im just going to keep mine and just make it into a car that is just irreplaceable with all the best mods possible...... to be honest these car with the right mods are just astonishing and i genuinely think a proper sorted z4m would need mega bucks to trade into somethink with similar performance.

bad times guys, bad times.

Thanks Alastair, it looks a decent buy for someone but not really what I`m looking for (I`ve done SPA with the MLR lads the last 2 yrs and going again this May).

Beedub, there`s only so far you can go with a soft top, I put £20-25K in mods on my M3 `vert before the penny dropped and have been deternined not to go that route again with the Z4. If it was a Coupe it may have been a keeper (for a bit longer) but ultimately I miss the SMG when really pushing hard and am keen to go the HPF route this time instead of Supercharging again, so the Z4 is a no go.
