Anyone running Z4M alloys on a lowered 3.0si?

Afternoon Ladies and Gents..

I have the opportunity to purchase a set of Z4M alloys with winter tyres (standard Z4m sizes 225x45x18 and 255x40x18)

I know quite a few of you are running them on non M's but does anyone know if I will be able to run these on my 3.0si coupe lowered on Eibachs?

I currently have 235x35x19 and 265x30x19 and dont really get any rubbing issues so I'm hopeful that they should be OK.

Many thanks for your help

They do fit.. Quite a few people on here are running them. Not too sure if any of them have their cars lowered though? :D

JDM - Where are you in the country? I have a set in my shed that you could come around and bolt on and try if you like?

I've run z4m wheels with m standard tyres on my si sport. Rubs quite badly when pressing on especially when cornering and coping with compressions at the same time - different offset kicks the wheels out closer to the arches.

Think others have changed profile back to non m standard.

I have z4m wheels fitted to my 3.0se.Tyre size F225 40 18,R255 35 18 .No rubbing.Suspension is as std set up.

Hi JDM,

I wouldn't bother to be honest. I know yours would come with tyres, and it sounds like you intend to use them for the winter only. But as a longer term proposition my experience is that far fewer manufacturers make a tyre that comes in OEM M sizes for both ends of the car, compared to those that make OEM non-M sizes for both ends.

So it can cut down your options a bit when it comes to choosing replacements, especially if you're a bit picky (Vredestein Sessantas come in the right sizes though).

EDIT - whoops, just realised others have mentioned the possibility of fitting non-M sizes to the M wheel :exitright:

Thanks Daffy. I'm goin to look at the potential set on Sunday as the seller is quite local and I have agreed I will try them on to see if they fit ok. Just wondered if anyone had got first hand experience with a lowered zed.

Thanks guiseley. My summer wheels that are on now have a completely different offset to standard and really push the wheels out into the arches and I experience rubbing under the same situations as you describe. I can't work out whether the wheel diameter will be bigger than my current 19". Thanks for your reply

Thanks for your reply. The wheels in question come with nearly new vredstein winter Tyres but in the standard M size. I suppose an option could be to sell those Tyres to someone with an M and buy new winter Tyres with a smaller profile but then it all starts getting a bit messy. Especially as I would also need to sell my original refurbed 108s with nearly new runflats aswell. Id have wheels and Tyres coming out my ears lol.

I had rubbing also when I was running on M profile tyres. With non-M profile they are ok.

Thanks peddy. Is your car lowered or on standard suspension setup?

Standard M-Sport.... So you'll definitely have rubbing issues if they are on M profile.

Hmmm I will try them at the weekend. I may consider buying them and selling the original M spec winter tyres. Maybe someone on here with an M would snap them up?

I'm sure they will TBH. Just need to see how much you'd get for them roughly to see if it's worth getting in the first place I guess.

Just searched and found this... looks like I may be in luck as Pawnsacrifice didnt seem to have any issues with rubbing and his looks lower than mine :D

Yes mate, mine's running quite low. Proper spec tyres and no rubbing issues. Look sweet too, IMO.

ADD: almost forgot, my geo was done with a slight track bias, so there's more camber than standard, not sure if that helps. But also, even with track work there's been no rubbing.

This is interesting PS as many people say they get rubbing issues with standard suspension so with it being lowered makes you think it just wont work :?

Well I am going to look at the wheels on Sunday and have agreed to try them on the car. If they fit with no issues then that's fantastic but as a backup plan I have managed to provisionally sell the M spec winter tyres to a fellow forum member and I will have to fork out any but some smaller profile tyres.

Here's to hoping that they fit as is though :)

Thanks for the reply mate.

Just remember though that I am running the proper tyres for my car - not the M profiles. Now I don't know too much about this and this may be completely wrong, but... while the car is lower than a standard car, when pushed I would suspect that the standard springs compressed height isn't far off that of the aftermarket spring, just that there is less travel in the aftermarket springs. The reports to date seem to suggest that this difference is less than the additional profile in the M tyre.

It may also be the tyres, if the OEM conti's are squarer than the Vreds (which I am running) this would also make a difference too.

But like I try and tell anyone that's after M wheels, go with the correct profiles! Personally I don't like the look of the taller tyre wall, the fact the circumference is different or that it causes rubbing! Swap the tyres out.
