Anyone running with remap DME tuning on 28i from Celtic, SA Tuning etc ?

Hi Gents,
Yes me again. lol Looking into DME tuning too. Would appreciate your advice & thoughts again.
Seeing that both have introduce a Gear Box remap this would add more driving enjoyment as well.
Yes one should not be too greedy 40 hp & still keeping reliability at hand would be great.

Yes I was reading all about your tuning adventure Phondar. The biggest issue that I have is I don't live in UK. I live on a little island in Indonesia call Batam now. Basically it's gonna be all diy for me, yes for mechanical work I can get local workshop to assist. Had some email exchanges with Celtic & it seems like their Emotion hand held can also help not only to tune but also read the DME function faults, reset etc.
Hence would be great if you guys can offer me further advice before I take the plunge. Heard from a friend that SA Tuning is good but I'm not sure myself.

Well for you in your location the Celtic Emotion may be one of few options unless you are a hard core coding type person..
 
Well Phondar, Im an old fart now lol. Just thinking of getting some more reliable power out of my Z.
When younger & living in Taiwan, play lot's with a Porsche 944 turbo & also had a Porsche 964.
Tuning was never much of an issue cause I had a buddy who has a dyno/engine mod workshop.
These days ECU's are getting so complicated it'll proberbly be a very steep learning curve for me.
Btw I read that Celtic is offering gear box tuning but don't see Z4's in their list, what's your view
on this tweak ? Lastly hows your M4 BBK working out, is the chassis well behave under hard braking
into corners etc ? Decided that I too will go your way for the rears, 275mm rotors at the front have to
seek for your thoughts I was looking into 255 mm rotors.

Fits well, works very well, little aggressive on the initial bite ..very smooth n powerful no obvious issues..handles very well as it already did with my other mods.. need to make sure its US spec 35is or EU spec 35i or 35is not 30i

Breaker and refurb is teh most cost effective route,..thats what I did..not many to source though!

Gearbox tuning on ZF8HP on E89 waste of time..box does a great job and is very fast anyway..marries very well with a re-map!!

You are not going to exceed its torque limits anyway witha re-map..

As Donald would say/.. great box great box, its a beautiful thing..

375mm rotors won’t fit in 17 wheels , which is one of my criteria...that kit is just about the largest you can fit in a 17wheel...the 6 pot calipers make up for any reduction in rotor size..

On the rear wheels if you are getting second hand parts it’s only the us spec 35is that has the bigger rear brakes not the 35i..

In Europe both the 35i and 35is had the bigger rear brake..

Making up a rear bbk using bmw parts would be very expensive nearly as expensive as the aftermarket kit John E89 referenced..

Yes I took a look into the 35i rears indeed they're bigger 248 rotors. Question again pls, if I could buy a set of these is it
plug & play cause not sure if the E brake etc has compatibility issues with 28i DME.

It SHOULD be p n p .. I’m having a set refurbished so will find out...I see no reason why it wouldn’t work..

Last question pls, when you installed the M performace fronts did you have to reflesh the DSC or something of sorts ?
Wazzzz looks like these days it's becoming very problematic to mod cars.

When the BBK kit is applied to its intended cars the E90 a software update is done by BMW..what that does to the DSC parameters I have no idea.. I've looked at the various people who have twiddled / looked and there are about 10 parameter lines to code..each with several levels.. so around 50 plus variations.. since its not clear what the consequences are .. and with just the BBK fitted (I did inadvertantly re-furb a rear brake set (US 35i) but turns out that was the same as already fitted).. so witing for new re-furb rear brakes before deciding,,

I assume if BBK on front with standard rear discs is OK then BBK on front with bigger rear discs will be OK..

The only obvious issue is the initial bite is sharper..but that's no bad thing..

The days of tinkering with cars with spanners is over!!!
 
Yes days of cars with spanners is over. Does any error codes etc appears on the dash ? Since the initial bite is sharp does it hinder conering balance for you or you just adapt & adjust with new drving technic ?

No error codes.. just have to re-program right foot in terms of pressing to hard..ABS comes on in wet /slippy conditions more showing that the BBK is working ..without ABS probably too agressive bit but with it..OK.. in the dry just great..

My car is fairly heavily modded so it handles very well and this BBK doesn't seem to introduce any detrimental behavour..

With the big turbo fitted defintely needed more brakes to slow back down from the much much better mid range roll on performance..

I've just remapped my 2020 Supra remotely using BM3. I also remapped my previous 35i using MHD remotely. Both these companies are well known in the BMW tuning world so I would have thought would have something for your engine. BM3 also allows you to work remotely with a tuner anywhere in the world to produce a custom map.

Both have phone apps you can use instead of a PC. Thought I'd mention them in case you hadn't come across them.

I did have a quick look around for you on that. Both MHD and BM3 would be perfect but unfortunately the N20 engine in the Z4 sits in a strange no-mans land. The Z4 sits in the E series platform whereas most cars that came with the N20 were F or G series. Due to the comms network in the car changing significantly on the move from E to F series none of those tools will work for your Z4 and are not likely to in the future as the volume of N20 Z4s is so low.

In your situation I would purchase a clone tool (KESS or KTAG) that allows flashing of the N20 and find a tuner capable of working on and tuning the BIN file. Depending on the price of the tool the Celtic Emotion device might make more sense but it looks pretty basic for the money you pay.
 
Thank you R.E92. Where I am me will be the tuner. Lol What about Quantum are they good ? Found that they've got a tuner in Malaysia which is closer to me but in my cast can only get them to reflash the DME car can't be there for rolling road tuning.

A remote tuner will be able to tune the car just looking at data logs of the car and provide map revisions to be flashed locally.

That's the preferred method of tuning anyway. A dyno is a useful tool for diagnostic but not the best environment for perfecting a tune.
