Anyone remapped a 20i to 28i spec?

The car has a service every year. It might be that I am comparing her car with my car, NOT the mini. In fairness she thinks it plenty quick enough, but very occasionally I get caught out by it being a bit slow to 'gird its loins'!

You’ll find that the auto box seems a bit ‘not quite right’ when it’s in 20i mode..once it’s remapped it becomes a perfect marriage..

I found I needed to be quite prescriptive in my driving before the re-map to get the best out of the box, afterwards it has so much more go it just works...but if you do put it in sports+ mode it’s a real hoot..

Holy sh!t, that's changed the beast somewhat!
Took them a bit longer as they couldn't get to the ECU in situ and had to remove it to get it remapped I believe. It's still pretty docile in comfort mode at low revs but by Christ does it shift in Sport mode as the revs pile on.
Definitely worth doing. Now to do something about the lack of noise...

Hi. I have a 1.8. I have had a stainless custom exhaust fitted leaving the CAT alone. It makes a terrific noise when accelerating but is quite whilst ideling along. A really good upgrade as my twin exhaust was really shouty all the time.. I drive distance a lot.. I have been informed that a 100BHP extra is not uncommon and 400 torques extra which seems extreme.. has anyone had these figures from a stage one tmremap and was there any alterations needed?

I’ve heard of 18i cars gaining 130bhp just from a map, no hardware necessary, all the 20i range of z4’s use the same n20 engine

Had my 2.0 remapped not long after I bought it. 258hp after the map. Mine's also an auto. The difference is noticable all across the rev range and especially at urban speeds in 'comfort' mode, a lot less sluggish in feel and response.
I've had the car recently serviced and there were no issues reported due to the remap.
Well worth the money!

I had my 20i mapped,,now at 280bhp...my guy altered the gearbox map as well as the engine map....No issues done about 1500 miles since 13000 16 plate car...

What does the gearbox map alteration do?

What does the gearbox map alteration do?

It’s for autos only, think it alters the change points/shift speed etc etc.

I'll have a word with the guy that remapped mine - see if he thinks it's worthwhile. I haven't anything to compare my 8 speed auto box with as it's the first auto I've owned.

They also remove the torque limits on a couple of the intermediate gears that otherwise causes a small amount of throttling back on those gears with a serious re-map

This... You shouldnt have to remove the ECU to carry out the remap...just connect to the diagnostic port...

Depends on the tool set the re-mapper used...until relatively recently people had not hacked the anti tinker s/w to allow OBD re-maps..

Is there a list of companies who do this, I have the 2.0 but am based in Glasgow, anyone have a recommendation for a company to do it? How do you describe it to your insurance, never had any modifications on cars I have had.

B for BMW are an authorised Celtic re-map dealer, on Clydebank...top rated guys, great support, not the cheapest...

I recommend them..

Other re-mappers are available..

Thanks for getting back to me, I have had my car serviced their a few times, so will get in contact with them

For those who have it, has the MPG changed much, I know you should never ask this question, but my car is a daily driver and I wonder if the change will be ruinous in that respect?

When I used my car as a daily driver for commuting the mpg didn’t change, nor did my speed as it was dictated by the volume of traffic around me.
If you were driving on empty roads & could give it full throttle you’d use more fuel, i don’t think it would be much different as you can’t hold full throttle for long.
Rob

Exactly, as above. Had mine done and pooling around sees the same mpg but it is tempting to use the extra grunt so overall mine will drop, but I didn't get it done to drive like a vicar.
