Anyone Plastidip the interior at all?

Morning All,

Still spunking the cash on brining the Z up to a more loved standard.

Given up on trying to source new Ally trims for the interior, stupid money.

Other things I need are interior door handles (believe it or not the previous owner used a marker pen to colour it in lol)

But rather than get into wrapping which can be a pig when it comes to small parts I was thinking of just taking the all these former silver parts out and spraying them with plastic primer and then a layer of plastidip (colour undecided yet but most likely just a gun metal grey )

Main question is has anyone done this at all and how did you find it afterwards, did you have any issues with the thickness of the stuff, button holes aren't an issue as it cuts quite easily and doesn't crack or chip.

Finally did you attempt the heater grills in the centre successfully?

I've enquired about this directly to the supplier before. Seems like you can't really use plasti dip in high contact areas. You know that you can peel it off anyway, in areas where you've got high amounts of use or wear; steering wheel or door handles you're better off with normal paint and several layers of lacquer.

Firstly let have a picture of these coloured in beauties!
Secondly. Wrapping them is very easy as they are easily removed and pretty straightforward profile for wrapping.

Hmmm, interesting idea but I'm not sure plastikote is going to give you the wear resistance you need for a door handle. You might be better just priming and spraying with a quality enamel paint.

Colours can be a bit limited. I think there is a brand called JAPLAC that do a big selection (even metallics).

wrap it, piss easy for that part mine were scuffed so I've wrapped them in brushed alu and they look great.

I refurbed my steering wheel trims with a rubberised paint and although it lasted longer than plastidip would, it didn't hold up well during the summer heat and has melted/worn away on the side spokes! Like others have said either wrap or use a decent paint and several coats of lacquer!

The enamel gloss spray paints shouldn't need lacquer. Enamel is about as tough a paint finish as you can get, but I have to say if the wraps really are that easy to apply it's probably the way to go.

OK so plastidip isn't going to work around the ash tray part. Just too tight.
So bought up some decent looking carbon wrap (because bruuuuuh check out my carbon innit)
With the aim of wrapping.
Upper dash panel
All ally trans tunnel bits
Grab handles
Little door handles (this is what was coloured in)

Hopefully a 40x200cm piece will do the lot.

Might struggle with those, due to the curvature (most of the other bits you're doing are fairly flat). It's also the smallest thing you'll be wrapping so will prove awkward? So IMO I think you'll struggle with the door handles. Everything else should be fine. Maybe a bit of fiddling! But definitely do-able. Let us know how you get on? (photos)

I agree unless he dismantles them completely and wraps it so the ends meet at the back then it should hold fine. But wont be easy.

door handle won't be too bad tbh. The way to do curved small parts is to stencil it onto the back of the wrap, and from the edges outwards cut out something like a leaf shape. Remove the wrap backing from the main part only. Place it on and smooth it. Using a scalpel fold the leaves over the back and trim away any overlapping material.

Don't get me wrong it'll be frikin tedious and take a long ass time. But will be attempting it this weekend and will post the results.

why not get them hydro dipped instead of trying to wrap them.
