Anyone own or have owned a 335i

Very close to part chopping my z4 coupe for a 2007 335i cab. They have offered me a pretty good price for mine considering its a dealership as they usually try to have your pants down! :D

Can anyone share their experiences with one of these?

Massive power difference between the zed and the 335i?

How does it drive and feel?

Any problems experienced?

Thanks in advance!

My brother has one (coupe bought approved 2 years old). Had a lot of problems, broken wheels (known problem) very rough engine they can't seem to diagnose etc.

Otherwise very nice car, much more refined than z4 (what isn't?). Great to drive and effortless compared to a z4. I bet the design and development budget was 20 times that of the Z

Okay, will have the wheels inspected. Out of interest, which wheels were they?

These are the ones on the car i am looking at:

19" light alloy Star-spoke style 230

Thanks for the info mate.

I've ben informed by the wastegate issue required 2 new turbos... a little put off by this if i am honest although i have been told that it is covered under warranty which is why i am looking at an AUC.

They've also been known to have the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) issue.

Mum's car was in with BMW last week for a few days to diagnose an issue, the car would stall on its own and then go into limp mode in addition to really rough idling (still has an issue).

Minor technical point as the car is incredibly fun to drive. :D

Its great.

HPFP gives a lot of problems.

Love the Semi Auto on them.

Had a lovely one:

Hpfp issue on the n54 is now resolved and if you encounter it there's a good chance you'll get it replaced for free or under contribution if auc.

Any n54 based car will be fun. I should know ;)

Had a new one from 2006 until 2008ish. 335i coupe with autobox, it was pretty fast but not very involving (previous car was a 330ci which was better in that respect but obviously slower in a straight line.)

Traded it for a DCT E92 M3 which was far better.

My dad had a 335d coupe (se). Low miler, special order colour, with loads of nice extras - it was a lovely car no issues and I just remember it being effortlessly quick and was also a really nice comfortable and practical car.

The diesel version is also a torque monster to :-)) wish I had bought it off him now

Re. my brothers car, not sure which wheels but I think they were the ones that have been on watchdog. He's not keen on the harshness of the ride but I think he's just getting old (he had a 2002 330 cabriolet before which I thought with 18" Bridgestones was spongy compared to my 2000 325 coupe with 18" Michelins).

The auto box is terrific as is the stereo (compared with the Z)

I had a 2006 335I coupe (manual) a few years back and i really liked the car, drove well, plenty of power, very quick and very nice inside. Could have a louder exhaust but thats personal taste i guess.
Although as others have said there can be problems. Mine was AUC and in the first year needed the vanos valve replacing and had problems with the HPFP which led to several limp mode drives. Once the warranty was up i decided to swap it for a 1 series (123d). as i was worried about future engine issues and also wanted better MPG as my commute had increased.
BMW were good in fixing the issues though, id have another one as long as it came with warranty.

A friend of mine had one a few years back (coupe) lovely car to drive however over the 18 months he owned it, it spent most of its time back at the dealership being diagnosed for a string of random engine faults they couldn't cure after much dispute (they even blamed it on the petrol at one point!) they eventually took it back....they don't seem to be a high point in BMWs reliability

Well thanks for all of the help peeps, I have bitten the bullet and dropped a deposit!

If all goes to plan, i will be in it on Saturday!

Are there high points in BMW reliability? I've certainly not seen it in the 2 BMW's I've owned.

I don't know my first BMW didn't break too much :-) I have to agree though my expenreince is that BMW's "superiror build quality" does seem to be a well "spun" myth
