Had a good day at Santa Pod BMW show today, lots of 1, 3 and 5 series but didn't spot many Zeds.

Nicely sunburnt now!

Did see this black one going down the drag strip. If it's anyone on here also have a video if you want it.

I was there too, we were both with a group of z3s from z roadster forum, I spotted 3 or 4 other zeds including a nice black Alpina roadster s.

Yeah I saw the Alpina. Think I saw you and your missus sitting in your coupe.

Shame this forum didn't have a stand there would have been good to see a few more z4s.

I saw a few z3's there, there were a few z4's too. First time going to this show and taking my coupe down the strip was good fun. We should definitely have a stand next year.

What was your best run? Interested to know what the coupe can do on a 1/4 mile.

I wanted to race that black Z4 aswell the marshal called the other guy to different lane when we got to the front and made him wait gutted. I raced Quintons' white E89 though later

I've got a video of me doing a E46 m3 but her did get a bad start

I was there Sat / Sun. Took mine on the strip 4 times Sat evening. Best was a 14.6 @ 96. Got beaten 3-1 by my mate in his 535D (mapped) :x :P

yeah its not the best track for grip I was running 14.2 at stratford a few weeks ago but only ran 14.7s at pod in my 3.0i with heavier 19" wheels on got a I've got a good video will try and upload

you aint got the torque with them 3.0i need 35is with turbo to race other turbos. Z4 are light getting off the line its after the gearing is weak I think for drag. Its great on country roads nice and rev happy but at 1/4 not so good those big engine diesels will just keep going they have huge torque

i race drag cars, and the times that the 3.0i are running is concerning that its the gearing on them, rather than power. Weight is also a factor, but these should be able to get mid 13's at about 105 ish depending on launch.

drag racing is more technical than it appears, as a faster speed through the traps does not mean a lower ET,

great sport, short but great :)

My friend was watching and said i did it in 15. something seconds. That's me just having fun, im sure someone with perfect gear change , drag tires and perfect launch can squeeze a lot more out of it lol. The z4 m can do it in around 13. something i think.

I didn't see your silver Coupe, I saw a Z4m achieve a 13.8 run. I would imagine a 3.0si would be capable of a mid 14's run, there are so many variables..

yes that's true ive mentioned gearing before on another drag thread at stratford the other week I said then the gearing feels wrong and there's not enough torque. My friend kept getting 13.6s in his mx5 turbo and I was getting 14.2s his max speed at finish was always 104 mph whereas mine was 96mph and at santapod this weekend I was only getting 92mph at the finish line and 14.7s. I did have massive 19" alloys on and my subwoofer in the boot I suppose slowing me this time. mine also might be down on power running back box delete was only 220bhp on rolling road the other week. I might remap ecu and try again more torque is what I need low down I think to shift the car quicker.

here's a video of me the m3 did get a bad start but no exuses I still made it look like I had rocket boasters

3rd gear is too long. I found changing up to 4th early added on 2-3 mph and meant the engine could give a bit more torque. Other than that, it's getting off the line perfectly that gives the best time. I found just under 3k rpm with DTC off then balancing wheelspin until you can floor the throttle in 1st and in to 2nd gave my best run's.. and very consistant too! Very different from my old RB powered 200sx which was a nightmare to get off the line!

yeah that's true if ind getting gbmw's off the line go quite well I was only revving just past 1000rpm as I didn't want to smell my clutch after I didn't bother with burnouts either to warm tyre theres loads of ways to get the times down really. lower psi to around 20-25 helps but in general theres only so fast you can go with that standard map. I had considered remap (BW chiptune £300) before this even but got side tracked. I know the max torque is around 4500-5500rpm I did think about different gear patterns last time at drag but found redlining was giving me best times on other runs. when I go again I will try changing around peak torque insead see if I can gain finish speed as it seems to break 13s you need to be hitting 100mph or more at finish. There's a few dates here so im gonna try again next month probably

here's a video of me against E89 28i I didn't get best start and was a slow run of 15s but still fun. The Z4 needs a turbo or supercharger really the standard Z4 is more about 0-80 really. It never feels that quick after 80mph like M cars having a lot more torque they just keep going

The Alpina would have been Zedwheels (Brian) He announced on here that he was going.

A little late to the party but i was at the BMW show last Sunday.

I saw very few Z's and even fewer Coupes. I managed to get up the strip twice but due to bad luck i had to run by myself both times!

managed a 14.6 (z4c 3.0si) i think which is ok for my first time with a passenger and luggage.
