Anyone not disconnect battery for a Dice/iPod install?

I'm about ready to hook up the Dice and iPod (CD connectors are out from under the console storage box and in the trunk area). Instructions call for disconnecting the battery before doing so. Last time I disconnected the battery (to install a new one), the defualts for the A/C go messed up and I had to have BMW redo them. At least that's what I thought happened as the A/C went at about the time I installed a new battery...could have been coincidence, though. Anyway, although resetting the defaults was covered by my still existing warranty, I don't want the hassle again. So, I'd like to know if anyone has not disconnected the battery before the install and what was the outcome?

I disconnect the battery for stuff that will cause error codes (like changing my steering wheel), but I plugged and unplugged my Intravee numerous times with the battery connected. Can't see how anything bad could happen when you're just plugging something new into the audio and ibus lines.

No need to disconnect for that.

Just got a reply on another forum where Tom G. from European Auto Source (A Dice retailer) said that disconnection the battery is a must for the install to go properly.

I have had several of these critters now - old style DICE in an X3 and my Z4 and now a silverline in my Z4 and it just seems to be one of the quirks to the dice that it indeed does require the battery disconnect procedure before it will really work correctly.

Definitely not my favorite aspect to the device at all.

Hey, pvr, that is a very good question. I'll ask Tom about it.
Edit: Here's the other postings....http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=642327

Edit Edit: Here's Tom's repl "Most times the radio/changer fuses are fine - but pulling the battery cables is always a sure thing." And then the post right after his said he's got the Dice installed for a year with no problem. Looks like it is time to toss the dice. And now, another post that says that one the first install without the battery disconnected, the interface didn't work. No poll intended here, just reporting new information that definitely is leading me towards disconnecting the battery...probably a little easier thatn pulling fuses and I'll take the chances that there won't be any untoward upsetting of defaults.

Repied to your other post, the issues you are having is to do with the resetting of the battery / car or whatever!
