Hi all,
Looking at this listing on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/156408364920?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=8ykR2a9wRhi&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=vBOfb9w7Rdm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Owner seems to be an enthusiast and runs a south east Z4 Facebook group. Any one have any knowledge on the car? Or owner?

Any red flags about the car?
Waterpump hasn’t been done
Front bumper has a few scratches either side
One small patch of rust on a rear wing
Scuff on a alloy
Small dent on front passenger wing

What have I missed?

Hole in roof material.

Personally I’d shop around. There have been some real bargain 3.0Si cars up for sale recently. You should be able to get a more original one with 50k less on the clock for an extra grand, which will a lot easier to sell on when the time comes.

Thanks for the replies.
I liked the fact that mechanically it was looked after, lots of BMW parts invoices, apart from the water pump not being done.

I’d probably need to spend another £1500 to sort all the issues. So might just be better off spending that upfront with a lower mileage car…

Maybe I just need to be more patient, can’t see much taking my interest atm.

I bought mine for £6k, but did indeed spend almost £5k so far getting it to my required level

Don’t worry about the water pump. People seem to make a big deal out of it.
It’s not that expensive to buy and replace.
Rust and bodywork damage is far more expensive to sort than than maintenance parts.
You could buy a 6k lower mileage car and still have to chuck money at it.

You are looking to buy at the right time as the market is on its arse.
Be patient and the right car at the right price will turn up.

It is also on Facebook Marketplace. Just a few miles from me so if you were interested I could look at it for you and run a scan https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/794247919536204/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Aefcc0d90-ff5b-4621-9bd4-a338c24473a4

Really kind of you to offer. I’lm going to mull it over and I’ll let you know.
Thank you

If its been living by the sea, first thing I would be doing is getting under it and looking at rust. If its already got it in some of the bodywork, it will most certainly be having a good old munch at the rest of the car underneath.

100%! It’s only been by the sea for a couple years and garaged at that but yes point taken.

Regretting not buying yours Col!

This one doesn’t look too bad https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1983965192028432/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

There’s also an auction on PH that I may bid on but suspect it’s going to go over budget.

Facebook location says Hailsham, which is not by the sea. However, the rusty brake pipes and front slam panel mean a good look underneath is a must. I take a selfie stick when viewing a car's underneath.

There is one on m3cutters for sale. 101k and same price as the op.

The lifters being noisy, anything to worry about?

Very common on the N52 engines when they sit around. Nothing to worry about

What he said.

I'm on my 4th N52 powered BMW and they all do it if they sit for a few days. It's only a problem if the ticking doesn't stop once the engine is properly warmed up.

OE Pierburg water pumps cost around £250/300 so long as you don't buy from BMW! The main issue is the pump will die at some point potentially leaving you stranded, so some owners replace them to avoid that scenario.

Rusty rear brake pipes in front of the passenger side rear wheel aren't unusual. My 2nd E86 needed new kunifer ones fitting when it was 11 years old, but it did start it's life in Manchester.

Thanks for that. Very reassuring.

Waiting on some info tomorrow but looking positive for m3cutters car.

You'd hope a car being sold on m3cutters would belong to an enthusiast and have been given some TLC.

I had a 325i Touring with 139K miles recorded when I sold it (after a new water pump at 135K). The N52 performed fine but just felt a bit sluggish, so a year later I replaced it with another N52 in my current 330i Saloon that has now done 126K and still performs brilliantly.

Good luck finding the right one.
