Anyone know this car?

Brakes are expensive, if you buy OEM parts from the right suppliers then front and rear are going to cost a minimum of £8/900 fitted and hundreds more if a BMW dealer is used.

Personally, if the service history isn't right I would give it a bodyswerve.

If it doesn't have service history run. Youl find it hard to sell on and may bring up problems in the future.

You are looking at £7-900 for an inspection 2, like said the brakes are expensive, the body work sounds like it will cost you a fair amount a front bumper respray will be £260+, wheel geometry is about £60-100, tax is £460 then your insurance, tyres will be £350+ for two fronts depending on the brands. So you are already in a lot of money you wont see back.

Sounds like it has too much work to make it worthwhile especially with it being a press car, when you can get perfect Z4MRs for so cheap now. Unless it is very cheap which im guessing it isn't.

I've done 63k in mine. Has been serviced and maintained by BMW up until the inspection 2 a 8 thousand miles or so ago. It is a big hit, so would factor that in if this hasn't had it done. Would also expect a disc change some time soon (I'm about to do my second set (managed to last another 10k on the rears, but have done 30k on both sets of fronts).

Mine feels as solid as it did when I brought it with 16k on it, so providing all maintenance has been done and doesn't look like its been thraped everywhere it's been then you're on to a winner.

Best time to buy too as it's not really going to lose that much money compared to the people that brought low mileage cars and then drove all over Europe for the last 2 & 1/2 years (that'd be me then ....)

Thanks all.

Your estimates on costs are about what i have found out this week, all in all i reckon it needs around about £2800 - £3000 spent on it to getting it looking as good as it should (i'll fit the brakes to save costs).

Assuming a Z4M with 62K on the clock with below average service records would sell around the 12k mark (especially if there is no record of the first service) and taking into account of what i need to spend I'm tempted to put in a really low offer and leave it up to the dealer. £8000 - £8500 for a Z4M seems ridiculous but in its current state I would say that's all its worth.

So leave it and keep searching, as like you have all said Im sure the right car will come along at some point, or put in a low offer and if they really want to sell take a gamble, would appreciate any recommendations / thoughts.

Thanks

Leave it. It will be a great deal of hassle to make it as you would like and, if it has been serviced erratically or crashed, it may cost a great deal of money too.
Better to exploit the current reduced ///MR prices that have come about due to both the winter and a feeling of national poverty.

You don't need to buy this specific car. You can still tell people you've driven a Stig car. After all that's all he did then gave it back - so you really are just like the Stig :D

If there's no proof of first service then you can't guarantee when the more viscous oil used to bed in was swapped out for 'normal' oil (usually around 1300miles I think). On an engine that will have been driven hard during its press time this might be one to steer clear of.

There are plenty of cars out there that won't need the money spending on them, if you plan to buy this then spend £3k on it I'd go and get a better car.

Press Cars were Registered in the USA in early March, outside of the new CO2 scope.

They definitely will have had the 1250m running in service too, I've had confirmation from the relevant BMW UK Press blokey over email of how they were run in & maintained.

If that was an Interlagos Coupe in the same state I'd be sorely tempted to also make a silly offer :)

tbh.. at this price it's almost tempting to buy a spare one for bits instead of the warranty....

One thing though, havent Z4Ms ( & especially minters) gone a bit scarce for a bit again? I haven't looked, can't bear to.
