Anyone know this car?

Its 2.5 105k had 10 owners and its a cat d from June last year. No idea of what the damage was. The dealer selling it hasen't let on its a cat d even through it says its been his wifes car for the past 12 months.
Would the above put you off buying it? Its a sub 2k car

My previous zed was categorised as a cat D by my insurance and that was very light damage to the front bumper and near side wing. However I would never buy a bumped car (just my opinion though)

If it all looked straight I wouldn't worry too much - but I would be concerned about the lack of MOT. :o

From what you have said I suspect the garage might have been the place where it got fixed! Why not just ask them? It gives you a bit more haggling power too!

My nephew had a bump in his 54 plate E46 Touring earlier this year. It only need a front wing, arch liner and bonnet, but his insurer decided it was a Cat S just based on his phone photos! He kept the car and got it fixed for less than they paid him.

His wife's car for the last 12 months but it's been off the road at least 4 months ..

I remember seeing the advert, But can't remember the reason for not following it up. Location or lack of heated seats maybe.
How did you find out it's Cat D?

Hpi check shows it was written off last June. It has heated seats

That’s not strictly true is it? Not volunteering information isn’t the same as lying & reading the original post doesn’t reveal that the dealer was asked about its cat status.
If he had been asked but then denied any knowledge, that would be lying

If it's only 12months ownership then maybe he doesn't know it's been written off himself?

would not entertain it unless it was considerably sub 2000
why bother when you could spend a bit more and buy one that's sorted.
not worth the hastle unless very cheap.
only have to look at the 3.0 that's currently for sale at app 3k.
time you pay sub 2k and spend money on it, is it worth the bother.
jmo.

Seriously, it was written off whilst owned by his wife and he hasn't mentioned it was a cat D. Frankly he has broken the law by not advising the cat status and surely he can't say he knows nothing of this given it may have been his wife who wrote it off!
Apologies in advance if I have misunderstood the time frames involved.

I've re-read your first post.

A dealer is selling it? Doesn't matter who's been driving it or for how long. Someone in the buisiness should know whether it's written off or not. He's not advertised it to you which means either he's lying or incompetent. I'd avoid.

Well I've just been to see the car
The car it's self drive ok with no problems that I could find.
It has had paint on the drivers rear quarter not a bad job but could have been better if they had blown it into the door.
Alloys need a refurb and lower front bumper is scuffed.
Dealer said it wasn't a wear it was a cat d and did seem genuinely surprised of course could all be an act.

Sounds dodgy as hell to me. What kind of a "dealer" is he??

That said if it's not stolen, has no outstanding finance and you're handy with a spanner then at £1300 you can't go too wrong!

Headlights are fogged and water in one of them.
Roof motor was making a loud moaning noise not all the time just passed the half way mark.
Got him down to £1300.

Walk away. There’s plenty of good ones out there. It’s against the law not to disclose a cat c,d or s if it comes from a dealer. Of course he knows!!!

The car wasn’t on the wirral by any chance??

Its not a big dealership around 8/10 cars there. I can do the paint and wheels myself the thing thats putting me off at the moment is the headlights. I know they can be polished up but its hard to tell if there stained inside and there not cheap to buy.

I asked him today if he knew it was a cat d and he said no he,d never checked this. Previously to this i,d asked him in conversion where he,d bought it from? Off a mate he said. Some mate i said later on when i pointed out it was a cat d

Headlights do come up for sale on here from time to time - at £1,300 how much cheaper can a Z4 get?

Headlights would clean up. Worse case would be to split them to clean up the insides.

£1300 is pretty low. Go on you gut, and if not plann8ng to sell for a while might be worse the smallish risk.
