Anyone know this Blue Z4MR?

After selling my M Roadster a couple of years back, I'm considering getting back into one and came across this:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201708118241158?sort=price-asc&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&postcode=tf16fw&model=Z4M&make=BMW&advertising-location=at_cars&radius=1500&page=1

Apparently it's been in the owners club under it's previous private reg S777 ***.

Also, how hard would it be for me to source OEM wheels to replace the BBS ones? I can't find any on eBay at the moment.

Hoping to rejoin the fold soon :)

I’m pretty sure:
That car has been floating around & for sale at a Dealers, for months and months..
Mr Wilkes, might know more detail??

Good luck with the search👍😎

Ex forum car I believe - was up at £13500 when I was looking. Apparently it's a very good car and it has the somewhat desireable Gruppe M induction kit.

It is indeed a ex forum car , the dealer has had it over a year for no other reason than greed & mistiming the seasonal price swing , set off last summer asking £16k  then dropped it to £14k November time  then all winter it sat at £11995 before hiking the ask again this spring .
The wheels & mudflaps are killing it , but easy to remedy & the GruppeM is genuinely a worthwhile additio ( worth £600 all day long if you weren't keen)
By all accounts the previous owner "Monksdill" treat the car very well so i would buy without hesitation , i actually offered the guy £11250 in January , he refused  but i'm pretty sure he paid under £11k when he took it as trade in last year

Ad he has been offered cash for the GruppeM.

Thanks guys! Amazing information, what a valuable resource this forum is.
I’ll view it tomorrow and see how it goes.

Hmm.
Best of luck..
Maybe, if your happy with it - a cheeky bid of circa £10,750 / £10,500 buys her
You sell on the GruppeM and, hey presto - a Z4MR for circa £10k ish!

Driving home, you might think :driving: :P

Are the mud flaps easy to remove? Is it a simple case of removal or do they need to be replaced by a different piece of trim?

The flaps should come off leaving no paint issues that a good clean & polish won't remove .
If you do decide the car is for you then id play dumb on the Gruppe & make it clear the wheels are a disappointment , if you get the car for £11k then id say you bought well . the BBS 18s will probably fetch around £450-£500 maybe a bit more on Ebay

Is it just me, or is it lowered? Maybe just the sidewall ratio and angle of the photographs....

The interior matts are also, an acquired taste.

More signs that it has at least been owned by an enthusiast and hopefully looked after the car, kept it on proper matching tyres, serviced it appropriately, etc.

The Car was loved and owned by my friend, he had it several years and spent a bit of money on it, it has been lowered polished most weekends and taken off the road in the winter, only sold as he moved into a boxter, I think they gave him around £10500 for it last summer I cant think of any problems with it, I drove it a few times and was toying with buying it but went the boxter way

A quick update, I went to see the car today.

A disappointing trip overall. The car was described as mint and unmarked by the dealer over the phone except for one small scuff on the bumper.

Turns out there were 2 scuffs on the bumper, a ding and chip on the rear quarter, lacquer peel on the front and light scratches all over the car.

It’s nothing a detail and smart repair wouldn’t solve in fairness.

Mechanically the car drove straight although the brakes felt very spongy. The tyres are Michelin PSS but they struggled for grip on a tight roundabout even without pushing it. Maybe it could benefit from a geometry reset.

I offered £11k based on the above issues and the fact I’d end up spending £500 at least.

The dealer was quite abrupt and said there was no negotiation to be had, I could either buy at £11500 or leave.
He actually claimed he bought the car for £11500.

Wasted 5 hours in the end which is a shame.

I think I will stick to private sales or main dealers from now. I have never had any luck with independent 2nd hand car salesman and most of them don’t tell you the true condition over the phone (or add any real value).

This dealer thought the car had vtec when I mentioned valve clearance.

On that note, the last inspection 2 only had an audible check of valve clearances. I’m not a mechanic, but I’m sure this is the not the correct way to do it?

That's a shame mate but I think you are right, main dealer or private is the way to go and the fact it has been for sale for so long says something - however, for the right price it would be worth a punt.
I think with any M at that sort of money you have accept you will probably put 1k into it to get it to where you want it - that's why the best examples are 14k+ At that mileage crank bearings may be a consideration, that's another 1k. It's all fine if you know it's going to be a keeper but as you've stated, tyres, paint, and valve check added to the equation probably puts you at 13.5k then if the vanos needs rebuilding that's another £400+. That said, at least you know you'd have a very sorted car after that which you'd easily move on.

I PM'd Mark the previous owner, ironically on Thursday morning. He traded it at 11k. Have a chat with him, nice guy very helpful. He said he missed the car and it was well maintained and looked after. And having spent some time reading through his previous posts before contacting him, he obviously did as did the previous owner Mark also a former forum member. Dealer only offered me 17k for mine over the phone, even though he said it was a 20k trade in all day long on book price. Reckoned he couldn't justify taking a more expensive car in part-ex :headbang: fair enough I guess but NO way I'm letting mine go for that, I'd rather keep it. :driving:

The car has sat for 12 months, maybe it just needs some suspension bush work etc and maybe the lowering springs aren't helping any?? I was willing to take a punt for that money, especially with the GruppeM and Gaptech etc

There's still possibly more wiggle room as the winter months draw in

Worth adding, the brakes absolutely stank the first time I leaned on them.

There was also a strong clutch smell the first time I used full throttle, but it didn’t come back after that.

It’s clear the car has sat for a very long time as the AC smelt damp also.
As someone mentioned above, I think if someone sinks £1k into it they’ll have a tidy motor if they can sort the wheels and mud flaps out.

But not for me at the advertised price sadly.

Seriously :( you were looking at a 80k 12yr old sports car that hasn't moved for over 12months priced at the low end of the market .
We regularly see & hear of top dollar Sytner cars that fail to meet a basic standard .
Even forum cars perceived as "perfect" examples will have issues & defects to remedy , i don't think there is a perfect used ZM out there no matter who is the seller .
You have to rationalise whats in front of you & picture the stone after its been polished  nothing ive heard would put me off buying that car , it sounds way way better than the one i have now that the forum owner in his own words " loved & adored for 5 years " it was pitiful but i looked beyond the grime * petty problems & now have a cracking over serviced 66k example that i'm proud of .
Look at some more & you may find yourself going back or upping your budget considerably

Fair words actually. My car was somewhat unloved but described as being in great condition however, it took me 2 days to clean her up! Ultimately the base car was good and for, it was the right colour. I looked at the blue but it just didn't do it for me (there's a nice one in the for sale ads) As Mr Wilks said all second hand M's will need something hence the general wisdom is £1500 - £2000 for the three big areas, shells, valve clearances and possible vanos refresh - as stated they are 12yrs old now. I'm the type that wants a benchmark for his car so I've done things that other may not have or could have waited - it's personal preference.
If nothing else you can instantly take £500 600 of the cost by selling the Gruppe.
