I was at traffic lights where two lanes went into one after the lights. The van on the inside was belching diesel so when the lights went green I accelerated very briskly to ensure I was in front of the van. Maximum speed would have exceeded the speed limit (by 10-15 MPH) very briefly. Twenty yards back before the traffic lights was one of those combined cameras (red light and speed). I assume that the camera was a radar one and not the one using strips in the road so could the camera snap me even though I was at least 50 yards past it by the time I exceeded the limit?

50 Yards past, think you would have been fine.

Were you on the A127 to Southend. Nightmare road with dozens of camara's, constant 2 into 1 back to 2 back to 1 with traffic lights.
and various speed limit changes every few yards :?

If you do get a penalty notice in the post, just fill in the back for 'mitigating circumstances' and tell the story above. Embellish it a lot (basically write a novel). I have found over the years that the people doing this stuff generally can't be bothered to read a long, boring story and cancel it as it's easier. Then move on to ones that are easier to get the money from.

Worked for me many times!
