"Staggering" news from the government today on the ever likely prospect of another global downturn :? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-30075810

Not really news to me as i read in Septembers "Loaded" magazine ( a semi illiterate lads mag  ) almost word for word what Cameron came out with today

Makes me wonder what's ahead in the longterm for those who choose to stay on the island

Does there always have to be 'growth'? If so then we will always be chasing higher prices and therefore costs with reduced wages and less employment in the search for more profit and so called 'efficiency'.

The cost of oil is a major factor in recent thinking - that's going to change.

Perhaps the Star Trek economy will be needed in the lifetime of our children - there's so much change in shopping and technology that it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if a radical economic system becomes essential to make the world work.

Ah well - live long and prosper (if you can manage through the unsettled lead up to nirvana!)

A classless society where everyone is equal is impossible. There will always be those who will work and those who won't. Those who won't become spomgers and those who do the work will become resentful and start wanting more of the share. A bit like what we have now as it happens. George Orwell described it pretty well in "Animal Farm". Nothing will change until human nature does

Makes me laugh about how people always complain about the rich getting richer. That's what the rich are good at right? i.e getting rich? So it's hardly a shock they are getting even richer than they were. Provided they pay tax (which they do - the top 3,000 people
paid 4.2% of the country's income tax despite representing only 0.01% of uk
taxpayers) and spend a decent proportion of their wealth (which they also do) it's good for the economy isn't it?

The system is based around making more money, increasing rates and interest, why can a system work were all is equal and everyones works to benifit one another rather then how many numbers are in your bank account, in a world with the rich get richer and the poor get poorer the divide between classes will seperate the human race until a jar of jam will cost £50 and only the super rich can afford them.
There needs to be a no classes and a system were money is replaced with each and every human working to better humanity and treating all the same as equals without greed.
Either two things will happen in this world, the devide will be so bad that ur either be super rich or leaving in s**t and no inbetween or the ecomony will completly collasp leaving us going back to the stone age in which we may never recover, no cash points, no system, no banks, no jobs, production ceases in EVERYTHING, no structure, people killing one another to survive in a almost post apocaliptic world.
Sorry to deep maybe
I think this is called communism Johny

Took the words right out of my mouth

That's what the rich are good at - and they call it work. . . . .

What happened to the bankers that fleeced us all to create greater wealth for themselves - manipulating rates and returns - yea - they know how to make money all right . . . . :x

Pay taxes. . . . you've got to be joking . . . .only what they can't get away with.

Your figure of the top 3000 paying 4.2% despite being only 0,01% of the population. . . . shows it's even worse than I thought!

There's a terrible inevitability about all this when money and power are involved.

:driving:

Growth seems inevitable in a capitalist system, particularly when the economy is measured in monetary terms and doesn't take into account intangibles such as health/wellbeing. But what other systems are there that are reasonably meritocratic and generate as much human initiative (albeit powered by greed sometimes)?

The top 3,000 pay more than the lowest 9,000,000 working people do. Here's a thought - the less tax they pay the more wealth they generate and the more they spend in the economy. Taxing the rich until the pips squeak is a bankrupt ideology and just doesn't work.

These figures only twist my gizzard more - indirect taxes cost everyone and are on the increase - including the cost of the fuel needed to run a Zed - these are the pips that make everyone else squeak.

Don't expect the rich to pay any more than their proportionate fair share - but expenses and tax evasion is an industry in this tax bracket.

That's the terrible inevitability of it all but lets not forget what the prime drivers are in this system - probably in any system ultimately - doesn't stop me seeing it for what it is though.

Buddhism?

I couldn't disagree with this more. People should be free to persue activities that interest them and other jobs that nobody wants to do could be divided amongst us. There is no reason why a worker in a factory should not have ownership in it, these are not new ideas but are a common theme throughout history. The very fact that you can vote, be educated, work an 8 hour day, have health care, etc etc is down to popular struggle people not wanting to live as slaves - and these hard won rights are being attacked by the business class. " Liberties are not given they are taken " - Aldous Huxley.
I think you should read Animal Farm again. Try and get a copy with the original preface in it - I believe it is called freedom of the press - it is very enlightening.

The system is Anachism (not how it's portrayed in the press) not communism.
