Anyone in Glos/Wilts with INPA/EDIABAS?

I've bought a USB OBD cable from BMW cables on fleabay. I've set it up and if I remove the cable from the laptop both black indicators go out but as soon as I plug it in both indicators turn black without it being plugged into the car. I'm trying to work out if I've got a faulty cable or screwed up the com port settings so if anyone nearby has the same setup i'd really appreciate swapping cables to see which it is....

Thanks!

I have, it doesn't talk to any modules. According to the book, the lights should only come on when connected to the car. I'm fairly sure it's either the com port settings or the cable itself. If I don't have the cable connected to the pc neither light comes on. I could really do with swapping the cables around with someone as a test.

I did wonder if it was simply because it was an Alpina, but it won't even do something simple like talking to the PDC or rain sensor

Thanks. If it does the same as mine, could you tell me what windows you are running (version and 32 or 64 bit) and what your com1 settings are set to? If you're in a really friendly mood, send me the ediabas.ini and obd.ini files you are using?

Thanks!

just check mine and it does the same, running window 7 32bit but it did the same with windows xp

COM 1
Latency timer (msec): 1

received bytes 4096
Transmit bytes 4096

Timeouts
minimum read timeout : 0
minimum write timeout : 0

Mis. options
tick in serial enumerator

Are you running BMW diagnostic head V1.2, in options set signal quality to 100%

also run IFHSrv32.exe found in C:EDIABAS\bin\

Have you installed DIS v57, SSS v32 & NCSexpert

DIS is for diagnostic
SSS is for basic changes
NCSEXPERT is for serious coding

INPA shows you how the car is running, don't really use that.

I've only installed ediabas and inpa so far to test the cable. I'm actually trying to diagnose a PDC problem

I'll double check my settings. Thanks for looking

Have you tried windows compatibility and run it as windows xp

Yep. Also seen a lot of 64 bit issues so have dug out my old vista 32 powered Dell. If push comes to shove i'll put xp on it and make a dedicated coding laptop
