Anyone here keep their roadster outside 24/7? Rain/snow etc.

Rain? Snow? I heard about these weather conditions once, but I think it was only a rumor. :poke: For us, the sun is the big killer of tops, dashes, paint....
 
As has been said already mine has been outside virtually everyday for the last 5 1/2 years in all weathers, it's been treated a few times with Autoglym but is now tucked away a Hardtop for this winter.
 
My Z4M is always garaged, I rarely use it, I have driven it in the wet twice only because i got caught in a shower, otherwise it gets wet when it is washed, It is an 06 car 3.5 years old and 10.5k on the clock, the underneath is probably as clean as when it left the factory, the exhausts are like mirrors, sad eh ! :D
I do wonder at times why i keep cars like this, i did the same with my Porsches, but when i do take it for a drive it is fantastic, best value sports car around.

My car for life, unless i need cash for another house then off she goes :cry:

Yeah, in Vegas prolonged sun exposure severly damaged my headlight lenses. For sun stuff, I didn't really notice any other significant damage from the sun, except maybe some slightly faded seats/steering wheel, but if you use a quality cleaner/conditioner then it was good to go.

Works great, water beads off I tend to reapply every 3 - 4 months.
Only issue I have is that it is expensive at £22 a litre. Any suggestions for a cheaper product that still does the job..
 
agee with the general comments,mines outside 24/7,in rainy west coast of scotland,with no probs 4 the last few yrs(since i have owned it)
i use either megs cleaner/proofer or the turtlewax kit. cleaning every second wash/reproofing trtmnt a few times a yr(find the megrs slightly better)
 
The fabric is still great looking. The only worry I have is a tiny tear that is beginning to develop on a crease frm raising it up and down frequently.
 
had a car port put up at side of house, keeps the leaves and ice of the car, have to look after ma baby.
 
Just get some nice roof protector on there.

I used Autoglym stuff, but there are loads of good ones out there. They all basically do the same thing.

Seems to last about 4-5 months before needing another application if you use every day and leave outside etc.

Mine lives outside all the time so very encouraged by the comments.

Quick question though - is there a problem getting the roof down when it's frosty or snowed on? If it's not raining the roof is down at the mo and I don't really want to change that. Can't wait for the cold clear winter nights with no roof.... :)

I will avoid operating the roof under/near zero, because the mechanism of the roof may be frozen.

It's weird with snowy ice as well, because the snow as it melts/compacts a bit kinda grips onto the fabric and won't push off easily...

Basically, drop it whenever it's fairly dry, or if it's damp, make sure it's not down for too long (ie, 20 min drive tops)

Also as said above, if it's cool the mechanism might have issues, but I think that is probably only a concern into negative numbers.

Yes - parked slightly nose up and it leaks into the boot (trunk). Hood drains are clear, but water thought to be actually coming through body seams near suspension mounts. Filled up under the boot floor until the bung was removed. I advise everyone to lift their boot floor and take a look - first I knew about it was a broken amp, but I hear it can get much worse than this if it gets into the main battery wiring.
 
I keep my roadster outside pretty much all year round (garage full of junk!) and have had no problems with the hood leaking. I treat it with BMW impregnator twice a year and this seems to keep it water tight and looking good. However after a particularly heavy downpour i find the driver footwell is damp on the side nearest the door hinges. All the seals look to be in good condition and despite attacking it with a pressure washer i can never seem to get any water through, though there does seem to be a little puddle form on top of the bottom seal. Presumably it sits here and dribbles down over time. Question is how does it get there? Is it coming through the door weather seal? I'd have thought i'd be having probs with window/mirror electricc if it was?? Anyone out there who has had similar issue? Garage not much help...

Thoughts greatly appreciated
