Anyone have a pond?

Hi all just moved to a house with a pond and wondering if any members on here have one?-(in their garden not their zed) :) -thanks
 
Had one long time. Vacuumed it yesterday. Pondweed continuing nightmare in last few years.

No fish in at moment. Heron visited and haven't re-stocked yet.
 
Goldfish are quite easy to look after, Koi are a bit more difficult. Plants do a lot of the work keeping the water right but you should have a filter system which will need some maintenance.
 
Had one at my old house, could never be bothered with the hassle of it. A UV filter is a must or it'll turn green eventually, we tried all sorts of plants and pellets but nothing seemed to work.
 
We had a small one,came back off holiday about a month ago.Fish had gone and the frogs seem to have taken over.
It has since been dug up and the hole filled.Frogs seem to have got the message.
We now have a bird bath surrounded by a selection of bedding plants,i have to say nothing beats the sound of running water when sitting out in the garden.

Yep you're right sound of trickling water is relaxing. I'm going to do a water feature pond/waterfall garden project this summer.
 
Had ponds in most of my houses since a kid. Built my first one at about 10 yrs old.

Pretty easy to maintain if they are a reasonable size and deep enough not to freeze in Winter. Just put plants and fish in and they tend to settle and balance themselves and remain clear as a simple system establishes.

Has a bit of a waterfall too that creates aeration and the sound is relaxing in the garden. Few strands of nylon fishing line keeps the heron away.
 
We had one for about 5years, enjoyed it. :thumbsup: Ended up filling it in due to OFSTED, as Mrs G was a child-minder back then. Replaced with a trampoline and an ornamental fountain, as the kids got bigger.

had to fill mine in when i rented my house out as it was a drown hazard. it was an absolute shame as the prospective tenants really liked it.

never did a thing to it. apart from this thing that looked like a bag of straw and taking the leaves out.

Hi cheers,yes we have a uv filter rigged up :)
