Anyone have a dash cam?

Still has the element of doubt involved which could be crucial whereas a speed at the bottom of a video is nailed on..anyways you make your own bed.......

Love the idea of this fitted and hidden behind the mirror. Absolutely no way I'd have the speed on the footage though. Must do some research tonight.

I guess if I buy one then I could get my local garage to fit it as there's no way I'm pulling my new car to bits.

Just ordered a DR600GW HD, BlackVue are currently offering a free Power Magic Pro with this model. I'll post some details and pics once it's fitted.

I know of one case where measurement & timing method was taken over GPS data for speed information for speeding prosecution.

The moral of this story is if you speed then don't record it. :!:

Just listening to Jeremy Vine and they are talking about stickers on cars voiding insurance and I just wondered if a dash cam would fit in this category, I am assuming not as its not a permanent fixture and in that case a Gps would be in the line of fire too. They had a vicar on who had her sump stolen and because she had stickers on the car about Jesus the insurance was voided...thoughts anyone ?

They just had a bloke on who was on his motorcycle and was hit by a bloke who had painted his car a different colour and his insurance wouldn't pay out citing that he was legal as he had insurance but his insurance was voided as he had not declared the colour change..unbelievable

Most insurance companies encourage the fitting of dash cams, some will even give a discount off the next renewal premium. Again the same common sense rule applies, just like stickers don't place it where it could potentially block your view

This happened in the bike world a good few years ago with the stickers where they classed a sticker as a modification.
Anything to get out of paying out.
Think most of it has been relaxed as it can get stupid.
For instance you change tyres and its not the same brand as the car came with new so its a mod and they dont pay out.
Or you fit new shocks and they are not OEM so they dont pay out.

1) install is easy. Ive got to install Mikerw427's within the next week or two, so I can do a photo tutorial, although I think theres already a good one on here that Aquazi did. - It comes with a 12v lighter plug anyway, for the meantime.
.

Photo tutorial would be good......like to fit one but would have to be discreet and hard wired.

Interesting piece:-

http://suction-mounted-car-cameras.blogspot.co.uk/

Never considered that if I could see the camera screen whilst driving I would be committing a driving offence, luckily mine is on the passenger side of the rear view mirror and I cant even see it from the drivers seat.

So how does that work as my X5 has cameras from factory on every corner and my big screen is displaying images whilst driving (looking around the corner etc)?

I love the idea of these cameras but know that all that there's a 10% chance that they would catch something interesting on the road that effected me / others and a 90% chance that it would just be used against me.

One with gps / speed data being borrowed by the police for any reason would be the kind of suicide not seen since Gary Glitter took his laptop in for a service ! You don't even need to be pushing on, the speed limits around me are designed for police fund raising.

So whilst I initially saw these and thought "I love it ! Must have one". The reality is that I never can.

Instead I'll use the screen / dashboard real estate for a speed camera warning device / app. That's just the sad world we live in that I have to do this.
