Yeah, the engine is pretty damn good but can be tinkered with - cost for gain probably not worth it, get some lightweight alloys, save unsprung weight. Turbos are where you'll see gains from mapping.
Mine's been done (2.5 M54), as part of a project that hasn't been finished. If you want to see some numbers have a look at the Dyno Run link in my signature - before and after. That's with the new exhaust system but not the induction kit. The tuner said I would see another 10-15hp with the map and induction kit. Was skeptical, hence the independent dynos from DK Engineering. If we'd adjusted for a change in barometric pressure on the after run the chap at DK thought I'd have seen a few more hp. He also thought I could see a slight increase with a properly fitted induction kit (which without a remap would show nothing). If you are thinking of an induction kit check Shipkiller's site first - good info about the filters.
But, I'd save your money for something else - and there's always something else :wink:
