has anyone who has the software been able to clear the light. unlike most other bmws the z4 uses a safety intigration module so its a bit harder to clear.

cant help you, but curious about this as i set mine off when i had to refit the passenger air bag light in the center console because it came loose.

Perhaps the passenger seat senor is duff(it was on my wifes E46) and needs replacing!!!! If its not functionng correctly wouldnt you want to know??

I managed to do this when I installed my sport seats with a new occupancy sensor which triggered the air bag light.

I can't remember the exact menu sequence I went through. I will go and have a look now and report back...

Right the sequence I used to clear mine (2003 3.0) is as follows -

Select E85

Select Safety Modules (a new box will appear)

Select Safety Information

You may receive a version does not match error at this stage. I clicked out of this and the software continued.

Select Error Memory

Select Read Memory - you should then be presented with the stored errors.

Select Clear Memory to remove the faults.

I exited the INPA software and disconnected the plug. I then turned off the ignition and back on again and the light was cleared! Obviously this will not work if you have a fault with the system, but at least you will be able to identify the issue... Let us know how you get on mate :)

I can vouch that the above procedure posted by rookie975 works fine - it's the same procedure I've used in the past (although mine wasn't linked the seat - I've discovered that swapping doorcards on mine and the simple act of unplugging the window switch cables, is enough to trigger the airbag light!)

when i read the error memory the ecu knows the fault is there but my code lines are all saying invalid. any chance you could send me a copy of your 85.eng found in c:....inpa, cfgdat
so i can check it against mine???

thanks to rookie 975 ive sorted it.
my problem wasnt in the main module but the satillite B column right. have no clue what this means but now im a happy bunny :D

2 errors in memory
short cut detonation circuit3 ( seat belt tentioner right) to ground
at 67608km (42000 miles. car is now on 43250)

resistor detonation pill detonation circuit 3 ( seat belt tentioner right) to huge
at 48624km (30200 which is the time the light came on)

went into e85 > safety modules > went through all the options one by one reading the error memory until one showed the error, and cleared it..
then went e85 > body > instrument cluster > read error > clear error memory. and the light went out

Followed rookie975 and chrisj900 advise and clear airbag light !!!!!

error was

93E7 under voltage detected error counter 9
&
32 airbag
error frequency 255

Any idea what this means ???

Been on my dash for over 5 months !!

Many Many Thanks hope it stays off :?

I'm struggling a bit to diagnose my airbag light with INPA. Managed to find all of the cool but pointless capabilities like turning up the radio and moving the seats from the laptop 8) but while I've found the safety section etc and cleared the error memory but the light is still on. There's a different "CLEAR EM" option under the pre-drive check tab, and clicking on that does make the light go out briefly but then it comes back on again (but nothing in the error memory readout). :headbang:

The only thing I can see that says error is in the Key section, on the right under "Error key switch", "open circuit" is lit up. Does this mean anything to anyone? I don't have the deactivation switch/light for the passenger side so maybe this is irrelevant anyway?

Thanks - yeah I'm hoping it is that. Not too long ago I had the steering column replaced so a bit worried they might have knocked something. That said it comes up as system ready etc on the pre drive checks, which I presume it wouldn't if the fault was actually with the connection to the main steering wheel airbag.

Is it the "DIS" system that will actually tell me what the issue is for sure?

Just wanted to add that if anyone tries to do rookie or Chris' guide, and still has airbag light.. check the other modules under safety modules. I was frustrated time and time again not being able to clear the airbag light but realized there were more codes under satellite that I didn't clear. Airbag light is gonna after over a year of frustration!!

I have done it ,but i found the problem under safety module came up as something like " satillite B column right " .
I found the cause was a poor connect on the battery cleaned the terminals and connectors reset the light and it never came on again .
