Anyone had a windscreen fiited by AG to there z4?

I have a big crack in the windscreen of my car, Autoglass are the company who my insurers use to fit a replacement screen.

I know I won’t get an OEM screen but has anyone had a non OEM screen fitted by Autoglass? Has it been problem free?

I have asked about the new rubber they are going to use and I am awaiting a reply, if they don’t fit an OEM rubber then ill buy one from BMW for £25.

Anything I need to keep an eye out for?

Any horror stories or praises regarding Autoglass on the forum?

Not used Autoglass but had two screens replaced by Auto Windscreens, non OEM screens but with OEM seals.

In both cases the fitter said they would never fit a non-OEM seal to a BMW (could be a bit of Bull...) and there was no extra to pay for the seals.

The screens have been faultless so I wouldn't have too much concern.
 
Yep used them last year. Make sure you check for damage afterr. The guy who did mine must have leaned on mine and left a nice big dent in the arch. They sent a guy out next day to fix it though.
 
I had a windscreen fitted by Autoglass a couple of months back on my Jetta.
I requested specifically that a Genuine VW screen was required. It took them a few extra days and a couple of additional phonecalls to the insurance company, but they eventually agreed to it and covered me for a Genuine VW Replacement.

I'd say specifically request a genuine BMW replacement, keep pushing and you'll probably be fine.
 
Obviously, BMW don't make windscreens - they're all from a couple of different glass companies - so as long as the quality/dimensions match the you shouldn't have a problem. Unfortunately you have to take the fitter's word that the quality/dimensions are comparable.

However, most of the problems come from fitting the wrong dimension screens, or from dodgy fitting.

Also don't forget that the coupe and roadster use different size screens - so if they just put Z4M into their lookup they may not get the correct screen.

I got an AG-fitted one about 2-3 years ago (can't remember the brand of the top of my head) and they offered one they had in stock with the (now I know, useless) green sunstrip - and it's been fine for 60k miles, although it is now starting to look as pitted as the original.
 
I have spoke to them regarding the seal and im not sure what to do.

They are going to fit a seal from the same manufacturer as BMW uses but its not a BMW seal, would you risk it or just get one from BMW?

I have used National before and they have been great, and they only fit OEM rubbers because of issues, my new insurer insists on Autoglass though :(
 
For the sake of peace of mind and £25.00 (which sounds remarkably cheap) I would probably go down the BMW route.
I guess you are paying the policy XS on top (mine is £75.00) so for £100.00 you are doing the best possible. Incidently when the last one of mine was done done I was offered the option of an OEM screen, can't remember the exact figure but several hundreds.

Had a new screen fitted last week by AG , non genuine seal used, and the fitting is crap , gaps at top corners both sides ( the fitter struggled to push the seal on to the windscreen)
Phoned AG to complain about the fitting , they are coming to re fit the windscreen with a Genuine BMW seal

Will keep you posted
 
I had one a couple of years ago in my z4... Nice enough job... Seals fit fine.

Found a bit of glass which they missed when they hovered up.... And some rubbish on my drive... But all in all was ok for me.

I picked up and OEM rubber from BMW yesterday so will get them to fit that, thanks for the feedback guys :)
 
As you have already done, buy the seal yourself. If the chap comes and has a BMW seal then you can take it back for a refund.
 
I had an AG screen fitted last year by one of their mobile guys. The rubber fitting was terrible. Had it removed and refitted in their shop by their "expert" it is still bad, but have had a complete respray since and so nervous to let them near it again. I wish I'd seen a post about OEM rubber before, I'd be much happier now!!!

The booking was changed to this friday, i have the OEM BMW Seal which i bought from the dealer for under £25 so hopefully they wont screw it up!

Right thing to do. I bought the seal from Bmw on the advice of the forum and luckily I did as when AG turned up, their own seal was broken.

Drivers wiper arm and blade did not sit flush on the windscreen afterwards and there was a slight arc. However, was able to adjust wiper arm by bending it down slightly and it's perfect now.

Of course, the other area to be wary is the rain light sensor on the inside of the windscreen. My old screen and sensor was pretty hit and miss as the wipers had a mind of their own and wouldn't really come on auto if it rained or keep up on auto. The new screen from AG has the sensor which is just plug and play, and my wipers work properly on auto now.

The new glass won't no, if you want the printed roundel you have to buy an OEM screen AG won't fit them for your excess i think the difference is another £150 from memory!

Had my Genuine BMW window seal fitted today by autoglass and the fitting is perfect no gaps .
also bought some new wiper blades off them. Happy Days.
 
Yea I had mine fitted on Friday, I'm glad I got my own seal though as the one he pulled out looked totally wrong!

Did an ok job but they sent the wrong windscreen I had the green band at the top of my old one and they bought one without but as I have an MOT soon I decided to fit it as I have waited a month to get this far.

Not as good as National windscreens IMO but it looks better than the cracked one which was removed :thumbsup:
