Hi all - got a couple of grand burning a hole in my pocket - been missing having a car to tinker with since going from 3 cars to 2 after selling my E85 and getting a E89 as a daily - been to see a mint TT roadster high miles but FSH - interior looks like new and everything original - seems to be a lot of car for less than 2 grand- anyone had a MK1 TT and if so what are peoples thoughts -

Yes I had one a long while ago - from memory it seemed reasonably quick but was quite uninvolving to drive. This was the 225 bhp Quattro - I think the 4WD sapped quite a lot of the power so made it a bit numb.

Things to look out for - at the time, my one had the dashboard go faulty - was a known fault at the time but it’s possible that not all TTs have been fixed - IIRC they were called dash pods that were being replaced. Also check for coil packs that are on their way out, and, if it’s been remapped, make sure it accelerates sweetly through the whole rev range - any hiccups or loss of power could be from collapsing boost hoses (which are easy to replace).

Can’t think of much more than that though!

I once used to own a MK1 TT(225) coupe too.
Though it was a fairly young car at the time.
It had an AMD chip and it was around 260bhp.
Plenty of go - not so much soul.
DJStan has it covered and the only thing I’d add is to check the front suspension/ bushes.
Still think they’re good looking cars and were well built.

Thanks for the reply's- hope i’m not turfed out for treason but bit the bullet and put a deposit on it today - got full service history with10 stamps, a wedge of invoices, mots and even old tax discs- getting the cam belt and water pump done as part of the deal -apparently thats a must on the vag 1.8t engine and 12 months mot. Test drive was fun with much more of an old school roadster feeling than my current e89- some nice features including electric windbreak, 6 disc changer and even comes with a full tonneau cover. Has original 16 inch alloys with Michelin cross climate tyres so first upgrade will be some proper sized alloys with summer tyres next year.

The Mk1 TT is a classic , interior wears its age so well & even now almost 20yrs old they still look & feel great sat inside them .
Had a few coupe ones , yours looks like a 150 , if so id be looking to a remap to get the car to liven it up as they are a heavy car .

Cheers Mr Wilks- yeah couldn't believe how well it looks inside for a 14 year old car had a mk2 and mk3 so have had the full set now- funny to see a radio with cassette though -kids don't even know what a cassette is - it Is a 150 hp - funnily enough was googling the celtic tuning website just before i logged back on here -G

Why the hell not, for under £2,000? The dashes can be repaired by postal companies if any pixels have failed. Enjoy! :D

Cheers wonkey donkey - wife not amused but will keep me from under her feet - pick it up next Saturday

Pick up day tomorrow- still cant believe how cheap these cars are going for - cambelt and water pump done along with MOT and new battery - still feels like I am a traitor - guess if i joined TTOC I would be - some more snaps sorry

Nice, congrats

Loved the interior in mine.

The 150 is fwd isn’t it? So should feel as fast as the 180 Quattro.

Thanks DPG- yep it’s the 150 FWD- it’ seemed quite zippy on the test drive but obviously no rocket- been thinking about getting a remap to pep it up -quantum tuning currently doing a remap offer for £249 which seems like a bargain - will add it to the list of upgrades

Had a 3.2 a few years back, watch out for the light ballast ignitor as they tend to go, but other than that was quite a good little car.

The TT is a good car for the money, but I'd have looked at a e46 330 convertible....now that is a lot of car for £2500 now.

Picked up yesterday and first wash this morning - few cosmetic jobs needed and 16 inch wheels look far too small -but don’t know which one to pick now when it’s sunny

I bought brand new in 03 180bhp Roadster kept it five years nothing went wrong with it, the Interior was a fine place to sit. I did have it remapped after a couple of years 280bhp springs to mind, bit nump to drive but a great looker at the time
