anyone had a key replaced or fixed yet

I need to get my key fixed BMW in chelmsford say its £135 for a new one, the problem is it wont lock with the remote after researching i need a whole new key

Have your tried a) recharging the battery in the key[1] and b) resetting the central locking? When I picked up my 2004 3,0i the "reserve" key didnt work but when i recharged both keys and reset the locking they are both fine

Really? I never knew that!

Do the keys not recharge through the ignition? (Fully accepting that this doesn't help a 'spare' key that lives in the 'man drawer' in the kitchen)
