Anyone got INPA talking to their DSC module on E85?

Hi all - I have a copy of INPA 5.06 (the 'Mikes easy BMW Tools' version) that seems to be working great and helping me with lots of engine fault diagnosis etc, connects to the MSS70 ECU/DME of my M roadster fine (In German, but easily translated). Also works with a variety of other module in the car.

However it will not connect to the DSC control unit - the one I could really do with, to allow me to do the DSC bleed procedure.

I have the exact fault as the poster here: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1332927

It seems the data set my INPA is using, does not have the relevant data to connect to the Z4M's DSC unit variant, and thus throws an error.

As i understand, its a later version of the DSCMK60.IPO file that I need. Its clear from the file data that the version I have dates from 2004 so makes sense that it might not include the right data to work with a 2006 launched model.

I also got a copy of INPA 5.02 and copied the .ipo script files from that older version over into the relevant directory - still no joy, but makes sense, as thats going backwards, not forward. Worth a try.

Is anyone running INPA here able to connect to their E85/86s DSC unit?

If so, what software version do you have, and what data set?

Many thanks.

INPA's good for reading live data on the engine, not much else in my experience.

Get DIS v57 or better ISTA and you'll be able to bleed the DSC and more. If you've already got INPA install it's not much more effort to get DIS or ISTA working, should be able to pick it up cheap from plenty of places.

IIRC when you go in under the E46 selection you can choose between the MK60 module and the previous module under that section.
I’ve not used INPA for quite some time buy used it a lot when I dealt with E46 M3’s. And again I think the MK60 modules were fitted in the facelift cars circa 2003. So see if it will let you read if you manually select E46 section

Yes, the live data from engine ecu is proving useful!

As for the DSC unit - thanks, I'll try pretending it's an E46 and see if that works.

I'm aware that ISTA is much more powerful tool however I spent a whole night sourcing the latest/proven version (bimmerscene forum) only to find it doesn't bloody work on windows 7 and that's all I have!

I would bite the bullet then and upgrade to Windows 10. It’s only a few quid if you buy a key off eBay of similar or just use it unregistered.
Depends on your usage I guess but I didn’t even bother re-installing INPA after getting ISTA. There’s not much info out there on INPA so a lot of the data is pointless as there’s nothing to reference it to in a lot of cases.

Think I got mine from Bcables. About a tenner for a one click installer, job done.

Your issue is probably that your cable is only connecting to the K-line on pin 7, which is why it'll talk to the DME, but nothing else. The other modules sit on the K-line on pin 8. If your cable has a switch, then move it to the next position and try again.

If your cable doesn't have a switch, open it up and pop a blob of solder across the back of pins 7 and 8 to bridge them and you'll be golden.

Not the cable - I was well aware of that issue and that has been tested with a meter, and same result with two known cables.

Everything else seems to work - but the data is not there in the software to allow it to talk to the DSC unit. ]

Pretending it was an E46 was no luck either.

So you can talk to the KOMBI OK?

Do you have the E85 datens installed?

For what it's worth I have no issue talking to the DSC module in my Z4M.

Martyn - could you have a look at what .ipo files are in your SGDAT file? There will be a couple of options named DSCXXX...

Everything else connects and works (although in German). The version I have is 5.06 from the 'Mikes Easy BMW Tools' pack, latest avaialble on Bimmerscene - https://www.bimmerscene.com/showthread.php?tid=3 Data set is claimed to be "Integrated SP-DATEN v53.3".
