As above really. Looking at getting a 2007 X3 3.0D with 70k miles.

Anything I should know or watch out for? Wanting to use it for the commute, regular biking trips, walking etc in the Lake District.

Thanks in advance!

We've got one but it's an F25, you need info on the previous version so have a look here http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/

Also got a 2013 X3 3.0 d M-sport X-drive. It really is an awesome car. Not sure when the 3.0 xdrive engine came out but if available in 2007, I can recommend. It's very quick, 258bhp from memory but great as an everyday car, massive boot and when the seats are reclined, even bigger. Great Mpg for a large car. Bought it Spet 2013 and touch wood, nothing has gone wrong. Appreciate its not the exact model year you're looking at but worth researching if the engine was available.

I have an E70 X5 as my daily driver and you should enjoy the X3 as a very different experience to your z but you should look on our sister site for info re x3- good friendly and helpful place (if a little less active than here)

Sniff out the E83 3.0sd. 286ps vs 218ps of the 3.0d. Sequential diesel turbo pulls from idle and strongly to 5000rpm. Cracking diesel.
Remember reading about diff issues with e83s something to do with running non BMW approved tyres. Google it.

As above , we,ve had 2 E83 X3s & they are very sensitive to tyre brand+tread so wouldn't consider buying one that didn't have a full set of Dunlop BM star rated tyres on
Both ours have been the straight 6 petrol 3.0 which yeah you pay more at the pump but pay way less to purchase & service  maybe work out what miles you plan to do before choosing ?
Otherwise love the interior , good build quality & drive position plus very few inherent faults to worry about .
Just had transfer box oil & auto box oil changed on ours , not expensive but both worth doing after 80k

I just got rid of my 2.5 X3 for an X5. We had the X3 for about 8 years and 110K (traded in with 145K on the clock). It was awesome, very reliable. The only issues we had were: Sunroof cassette, which was replaced under warranty. Then the usual high mileage (at 90K) things like water pump and front pulleys. The vanos was starting to make some noise at 145K.
