Anyone fitted facelift style exhaust tips to pre facelift?

So I know dannyboy did this and I have Pm'd him a while ago but hes not read the message yet.

Anyone have any tips for getting it on? The older ones had a simple screw in the bottom, but the newer ones as you can see have a few brackets inside.

Without being heavy handed and ripping all the brackets out, is there a proper way to do it? They are just a little tight at the moment to get on so Im hoping someone here has already done it and can help me out :)

EDIT : Just realised how wonky my rear plate is! :o
 
Not necessary to remove the clips as they are an integral part of securing the fitting. The four longer metal clips centre the tip on the exhaist and the larger one holds it in place. Use a soft piece of wood across the face of the tip and a hammer to gently tap it into place. The newer versions are OK but once fitted cannot (without difficulty) be removed. The older version with the screw fitting can easily be removed for cleaning - the price of progress perhaps....!

The problem is the pre facelift exhaust pipe is a different shape which means you need to remove one clip, the pre facelift is more square where as the post facelift is round.
 
Yeah as has been said the pipes on my car are not perfectly round. I took one clip of each pipe and bent back the larger one a little bit to allow it to go on easily. This wasn't enought so I got out the rubber gloves and and the hairdryer and warmed the tips up until they were burning me throught he gloves and it went on great. Just been out to check now and they aren't going anywhere!
 
Maybe Tommo got the plates fitted at the same dealership as mine "Messrs S Wonder and R Charles" . . . . . . . took mine back for them to straighten and they still made a botch job of it . . .another little DIY task on my Spring Cleaning list . . . :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Yes yes yes I did notice it was wonky on this photo.

Ive got a tidy set of plates in the garage I'll stick on the next time it dry, no naff blue garage name underneath :)
 
You need that name on. It's a legal requirement these days for the plate to say where it was made.
