Anyone fit a 4 post lift

Wouldn't a 2 post be better for allowing you to also work on the car?

I've never found a 2 poster that i could get my car on
Because too low?
I'm in the process of installing an old bradbury 4 poster (with wheels free bars) to store my Caterham and Mini. So far I've cut 2 foot out of the length and six inches out of the width. I need to get it shot blasted now so I can paint before install - started to clean it but half a century of oil and cr*p got the better of me ....... and yes I have found a manufacturer who will make up shorter cables for me. I can get the Caterham and Mini under the roof joists in the garage but I might put some steel in the roof and remove a joist or two so it can be raised to full height - using the wheels free bars I could get a stack of three sports cars

I use a 4 post one at work. Not a geo m1 but a baby blue coloured one. It came with wheels so we can move it about but just ended up bolting it to the floor.
Not great for working underneath on any wheel areas but the centre of the car is good.
Ideal for polishing the sides of cars so you can save on a bit of back ache.
They are quite big and we manage to get the Phantom on and off easy enough but theres not much room for error. The Z4 fits easily.

A four post does need any locating of arms under the car before it can be lifted. You can also fit drip trays between the ramps/decks so nothing from the top car drops onto the one underneath - oil; ac discharge water or cr*p of the road.
Its the suspension rubbers. Fixed rubbers in the suspension are fitted on pre tension (so that when the car sits on its wheels on ride hight, the tension is off the rubbers).Kernow-Z4 said:You want to avoid leaving a car with wheels dangling for long periods, doesnt do the suspension any good. thats also the reason why when you lower a car, theoretically you should refit a few suspension rubbers.
Body distortion shouldn't be a problem unless you have a really weak car (a death trap) with extreme overhangs.
Looks like a hassle to fit if you want to switch and work on your suspension.PerryGunn said:
What's also a problem is that you need really long arms. And the jack points on the z4 are really close together. You'll figure that out when you buy a lift that can fit a van and the zed wont fit the lift :wink:
That is something to look out for when buying a 2 post and you want to fit sportscars, especially roadsters.
I really am trying to get a 4 post to fit but our garage is a 4 bay oak structure with two garage bay and the right half being an office.
A four post lift will fit in the right garage bay but I won’t be able to open the door to the office.
If I put it in the left bay the pitched roof becomes an issue.
The two post will fit ( on initial measurements) but is not ideal for storage.
I don’t think the Z will sag but as everyone notes it may be less than ideal for the suspension

I’m looking to get a 4 post for storage reasons (want a “working” single garage instead of a double) and was interested in first buying the lift and then buying two sets of jacking beams, perhaps one at a time, as funds allow. Still doesn’t give you the same access as a 2 post, but it’s not far off.
