just looked and seen how incredibly cheap these are and always wanted one...i know bad on fuel but i don't do many miles

anyone know what optional extras are desirable on them and issues they have?

im tempted to get one at £2,000-£2500

Superb cars that can be had for a steal if you find the right one but having driven both the 192 and the 231 bhp versions, I couldnt really tell a difference so id go for the 192.

Also its just worth noting that Mazda dont make the engines for these anymore so if you get a new ish one that needs a replacement engine, Mazda will put their 1.8i engine in from the MX-5.

Sold mine to get the zed. I've never had any issues with it, but I did a lot of research on them before I bought it so I did things right from the off. Like never turn the engine off whilst cold, always make sure the oil level is checked on a regular basis and that it's serviced at places where they know how rotary engines work.

Also I would suggest a compression test is carried out before buying.

MPG, road tax and a lively rear end were definite issues, the four seats were why we owned one. It had all the pro drive options, oz wheels, eibachs etc. Seem to remember work being expensive on it too.

Dude, Mazda don't put their Rotary engine in the MX5.

I luisted after an RX7 for many years and still do. After lots of research all these years:

If the car has been well looked after its fine, the RX8 is far more reliable than the RX7. Engine rebuild (redoing the seals as a preventive measure after 80k) is no more expensive than a top servece (£900 tops).

After having driven it for half a day around the track (track day with a prepared car - they said it was completely reliable and did not wear out its anciliaries) I found it to be very well balanced and easy to drive on the limit (bearing in mind this was in 2007 and I was younger and far more inexperienced). No torque though but it goes through its rev band like an elastic band! Lovely car.
tis a light car, very well balanced due to

I think Mat is saying Mazda would fit the standard 4cyl MX5 engine in the RX8 than a replacement rotary

Tim.

Had a RX8 from new for 3 years with no issues at all. Check oil on a regular basis as they do drink it and only go for 231 bop version. Did a Prodrive race day in mine to experience what the car can do. Loved it 'till I came to p/exchange it and it dropped like a stone. Lot of car for the money now.

I bought 350z roadster and then my Zed - once I lost the roof no going back!

Had an RX8 for 2 years with no issues loved the car, very lively rear, as already stated.. Do not think of taking it out if any chance of snow or ice. I had the 231, it has a six speed box. oh it does tramline, worse than the Z4. Driving position great, seats great.. stereo great,Tax expensive. uses oil, and fuel...!!.

and of course the roof is fixed.. but your right the price has fallen through the floor.. suspect fuel and tax is the problem there.

Don't touch a wankel engined car with a barge pole.
I had an RX7, i rebuilt the engine twice, never again.
First time it failed i had a Mazda engineer come and check the compressions. Back then he said the engines used to last 45k or 35k turboed. They were usually replaced under warranty. Mine had 99k, but never knew if it was the original engine.
Didn't the RX8 have problems in the US with engine failures because the oil was so thin in order to meet the US mpg figures.
