Anyone else's phone battery rapidly discharging?

For the last few weeks, my Samsung S8's battery has been lasting less than half as long as it normally would, and is also slow to charge (presumably because it's discharging so quickly while turned on). Has anyone else found this? Main apps for me are Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. Facebook seems to be eating loads of battery.

They can lose battery life quickly if the mobile signal’s poor :?

Not sure about the other apps (they seem ok) but tik tok definitely uses s disproportionate amount of battery life. The made some changes to it over last month or two (security issues I think) so that may have changed things. My daughter has to do without now... I'm so popular!!
You can use the settings /apps info to see what apps are using power. Or maybe the battery has has has been completely discharged/allowed to get to 0% too many times, that really damages them i think

Thanks for the suggestions. My phone signal at home has always been poor, but then I wouldn't normally be at home all day every day for months on end. Interesting idea. Still, on weekends in the past when I've been at home all day, I don't think this has happened. Predicted battery life isn't even 10 hours as soon as I unplug it on 100% now :o

Some Googling yesterday made me think that recent Facebook updates might be to blame, hence my post on here, but I reckon my battery might just be goosed.

I mentioned this to my daughter who has an S8 and lives on facebook. She has not noticed any drop in battery life recently.

That's funny as I had exactly the same experience with my S9 last week for 2 days solid. I don't use any of those apps either but I had to charge it both days early in the evening. I usually bang it on the wireless charger overnight & it normally has about 30% charge left at that point. It seemed to be Google Play Services that was draining my battery & I don't even play games on it :? . Anyway I rebooted it & it's been fine since.
I did have a similar issue with it about a year ago & I ended up doing a factory reset as the reboot option didn't work. I never did find out what caused it then though. Apart from the time it all took it wasn't too much of a problem as everything is backed up. It was fine until last week. Strange stuff :idunno:

Weird, I had the same issue with my iPhone earlier this week over 2 nights.
Don't use any of the apps mentioned by OP either
From being fully charged at night it was down to 30-40%+ next morning (and sinking fast), usually it will still be at 100% or 97-98% at worst
I checked all the usual battery saving settings, and they were fine. Couldn't see anything that was using it dis-proportionally

Closed it down and re-started and it's been back to normal since

Hmmm strange that you two have had something similar.

My "Battery Usage" stuff was telling me that Facebook had used 30% of my charge after being active for 30 mins or so earlier, which is nuts. Investigating another area of my phone told me that "Find My Phone" service (I think that's what it was called) had used a load of battery too. I killed that, and Facebook, and things are looking rosy. A 2 hour phone call then only used about 8% battery. Guess I'd better cancel the battery replacement service I booked!

Mines the same on Hauwei Mate 9 pro, looks like it's FB running in the background all the while sapping the battery, seems to have started today.

[ref]TitanTim[/ref] is your phone heating up while you use Facebook and if you don't close the app down?

Haven't really noticed to be honest, but looking at the apps battery useage FB is top of the tree by some margine over everything else on the phone, this morning I was only on the phone browsing for 15 mins or so and battery % must have dropped by 17%. I've tried settings in the FB app and on the phone but doesn't seem to make much difference. I'll remove the FB app later and see what happens.

[ref]TitanTim[/ref] I'll be interested to see how that affects things. I've possibly jumped the gun a bit and booked in for a replacement battery tomorrow for £60  Think I'll call to postpone for a bit while I experiment with apps for a bit longer
