I took a gander at one the day prior to this once I gathered my vehicle from an administration . Its great contrasted with my E89 and as I want to think regularly manly watching . I do consider the E89 is a young women car in appearance . The front of the new vehicle is vast, i do not deal with the back . I do like the within .

Post of the week.

Sat behind one today on a dual carriageway for about 4 miles, have to say I preferred this one in grey to red one I saw previously and the rear is growing on me!

A pal who works at BowkerBmw has the new Z4 for the weekend so yesterday i had the pleasure of experiencing a 40i ( its a demo so avoid this one if you are tempted as it only has a few hundred miles on & has been thrashed  )
Anyhow as with many i have to admit it was far more tolerable in the real than in pics though for me the soft roof is a big mistake  89 style folding roof would have made it a far better looking car in a coupe form & possibly appealed to a wider audience :?
Brief resume ?
The cabin , tech , seats & overall ride are its aces & the performance in 40i guise is blistering but i thought it didn't sound as good as a 35is :o
Looks wise the front just gets uglier & more ridiculous the closer you get to it ( i can't see how this won't be restyled at the LCI point) though the rear looks surprisingly good from any angle , the duck lip style boot lip a particularly nice touch 8)
I still think the price is its biggest enemy , this car was around £55k :( sorry but it just didn't look that kind of money

I do wonder if they just create a marketing strategy add an artificially high list price so they suck you into the PCP route and through some offers make the £500 a month look great for a £55k car. *manufactuer contribution, dealer contribution...always seem to make the car what it should be a £40k car.

Those who buy this new at full list will also be those who pay full price for a DFS sofa...🙄

For those who really have to have one but don't want to wait , 100miles on M40i demo £47700

I wonder how much you could get off of that advertised price? I expect we will be seeing large discounts in the future to keep them moving once the initial demand tails off - if it is even that strong.

In 2011 my friend ordered a fully optioned e89 sdrive 20i (when they announced the LCI) for £38k! 18 months later he got £20k when he sold it as BMW were offering massive discounts of £10-12k to keep shifting them by this point.

I am hoping I will be able to pick up a used M40i for £30k in 18 months :D

That sounds more than doable :P

Just drove a M40i now.

Better looking in the metal than in pictures. Definitely awkward from a few angles (those rear reflectors don’t suit the car, IMO).

Engine fabulous. Buckets of power from anywhere in the rev range. Made my S54 seem a bit weak! Good noise, too, but not sure about the artificial exhaust bangs - I can see those getting tiresome after every single throttle lift.

The whole car felt super smooth in general. I can see it making a great daily driver.

I imagine that most of the posters on here are blokes. As am I. Me and the wife had a look at the new Z4 yesterday. This is her view. Just in terms of aesthetics she said it was ugly, overwrought and just too massive all round. "It has no style or flair" indicating that the G29 is all scoops and (fake) vents to hide the fact that it's a poor design (aesthetically at least). The interior was marginally better but again she felt it was plain and not special enough, although the materials felt a little better. She felt the car looked like all the other BMWs in the dealership....And she thought the soft top sucked especially as it doesn't fold particularly well. As for our existing E89, she says the design is more subtle and graceful and "unique". I didn't tell her that two females designed the car. But i tend to agree with her. I am very pleased that we bought a very nice E89 in 2017 when I knew the next one would be a rag top. I suspect we will be keeping the car a long time.

She just doesn't want you to buy a new one so soon again. Mine does the same … if she feels I may actually go ahead and seriously consider buying one, it's the ugliest car in the world (no matter the make and model) …
