Anyone else having a BAD pre Christmas week?

Evening all.

My Father in law who I've known for 30 years passed away on 8th December. He had a big impact on my life reconciling me with my Dad who is a bit of a twat (sorry pops if you ever read this ) after 18 years.

Very tough time for my wife let alone the fact that she lost her Mum 6 years ago.
Then my son who I taught how to drive (always looks at lease 5 cars ahead and doesn't speed or use his phone) crashed his car today.

Gutted as he had booked a hotel in Devon this weekend for him and his girlfriend and stood to lose £200

Anyways help on sorting this mess out would be much appreciated. Renault Clio Sport

Get your son a hire car for the weekend as his Christmas present, everybody will be happy.

Sorry about the father in law, sh*t happens , and at what seemingly is always the worst time. I lost my Dad in August, now I remember all the neat stuff we did and smile, try it, it helps.

Oh and my youngest (17) is off to Uni (Glasgow) I'm in Oxford he's travelling tonight via 'coach' but he won't let me buy him a flight :thumbsdown:

Sorry about the father-inlaw...but just to co-miserate - My daughter called me the other day to say that all the warning lights on her car (VW Beetle that I just bought 6 months ago) just came on. Long story short - $2600 later to replace the abs module.
While she is waiting for the car to be repaired, I let her use my car (God no, not the Zed), only to get a call at 6:30 am from the school parking lot that she hit another student's car... now waiting for that bill....
Oh well, life goes on.

Sorry to hear that but freaks me out a bit because I told my son to take my wife's 1 series so he didn't lose his weekend away.

Should be ok because he's text me to say he got there safely.

17 year-old daughters will make you lose some sleep (and sanity) as well.

Sorry to hear of your run of bad luck and for your loss. You never stop worrying about your kids, sounds like we have some of similar age.

Yes, it's strange how one never seems too concerned when younger then once you have children or nieces/nephews you start to realise some of the things that we put our parents/guardians through.

I couldn't sleep so after texting my youngest whose still on the coach to Glasgow :? I decided to look at my middle sons car.

My neighbours must think I'm crazy taking photos at 6am

Just looks like it will need a Bonnet, Front Bumper and Osf Headlight. I'll start trying to sort prices and mates rates later. Still drives as well so should be able to get it to a garage.

Just make sure nothing is buckled behind that front bumper / bonnet.

Looks like it's had a nasty whack.

Luckily you can pick up parts for the Cliosports pretty cheap these days with the amount that are smashed up by boy racers.

(Not saying your son is one btw! )

It was a bit worrying really. I went down to pick him up just in case his car wouldn't drive.

Having spoken to the lady he hit. Her old Fiesta only had slight damage to the rear Bumper but more worryingly she confirmed that he was just about to switch lanes in standstill traffic so was travelling no more than 10mph

It makes me a little concerned what would happen at 30mph

Bloody hell that is worrying.

Luckily in the zed you've got about 10 foot of engine before it gets anywhere near you!

Maybe he should drive that!

Before you drop a ton of cash on parts, as others have said look carefully for secondary damage, it can happen a long way back on the car.

Look at the inner wings for ripples or cracked paint, if you see something you're not sure about compare to the other side. Also check the door shut lines and tailgate to make sure gaps are even, it's an indicator of the shell being twisted. Also look at the sills for kinks or cracked paint.

If you spot anything amiss, get it checked for alignment before spending any money on it. A decent bodyshop will tell you if it can be straightened.

Funnily enough after getting the car home yesterday I was looking at the front wing to front door edge gaps when my son was giving me funny looks so I explained what I was doing (today's 'yoof' eh).

I'll get a garage to go over it properly. Not going to take any rusks when the family are involved.
