Anyone driven the Highlands coastal 500 ?

Done most of the NC500 3 years ago.... But in a Discovery 3 ... Still a great drive but keen to do it in something that weighs less than a small flat.

A few more pics and a couple of vids, as a stalling tactic until I find time to sort through all 1200 of them...

Still been too lazy to upload my pics/vids of the north west (got the count down to <500 now, however!). In the meantime, EVO have done a better job:

Just booked a weekend break with the missus. Not quite the NC 500, but still a decent run.

Starting off in Wigan, we are staying in Luss, just north of Glasgow as we leave on a Thursday evening. Then onto Fort William for a few hours and then stay in Dingwall near Inverness on Friday evening. Saturday will see a trip through Ullapool to Achmelvich beach and then back across Scotland to Newtonmore in the Caingorms National Park.

Sunday will be a 5 hour drive home to Wigan.

I have tried to do about 4 - 5 hours driving per day as I hope the views will help us along. Got to see that beach though and have some quality time with a few stops along the way.

H.

After Fort William on the road to Dingwall turn left at Invergarry and don't go to Inverness. Just after you leave the village take a right up the hill and it's a much better, quieter road through Beauly, Muir of Ord and Conon.

Sounds like a great trip.

I did most of this route a few years ago before I sold the roadster
Too many great roads and views - some highlights though - the road from Skye to Ullapool - biggest potholes in the world - road up at cape wrath - had to stop and chase the young stags off the road - beach just before Tongue - simply amazing - Wick to Inverness road - simply stunning cliff and sea views - would do it again but I did it over three days otherwise it's just another long drive!!

PS - didn't mention the quickest roof down - roof up performance in Zed history - all down to the Skye midges!

And you wonder why I now have a coupe lol

Hi all,

This is my first post

I just treated myself to a Z4MC in December there, and just ordered a Stromung exhaust. 8) So, obviously looking forward to my 1st summer with her. :driving:

I'd also considered doing the North Coast 500, and was thinking about starting a new thread to suggest, but found this one, and also some other comments last week on the 'Europe 2016' thread.

Sounds like Spikey has been nominated the one to arrange it :P @ Spikey - you suggested the end of May in the other thread - sounds good to me! Look forward to hearing more info, & how many may be up for it

Cheers Ben :) Yup, still have my S14a of 10 years, and just sold my drifty S13 of 9 years few months back to make space for Z4 - not decided what to do with S14 yet..

I ride those roads every year for the 'start' of my biking season... didn't realise they now had a name! lol

Really quailty bits of tarmac, sometimes a bit busy with slow moving traffic, hence why I prefer covering it on my bike rather than a car... not sure it would be half as fun.

Well that's some eye candy for you;)
Plus before spent a small fortune on spoiler wheels etc etc and etc ;)

Sadly my ex in pics:("
But trust me being a Scot and spent early childhood in highlands with grandfather fly fishing
I only had one place to take my M

I went to Loch Lomond through trossachs and up to Loch Ness then to fort William
Round to Cairngorms, Aviemore then to loch garten

Trust me amazingly beautiful drive, scenes animals etc etc
Pics to prove;)
Even golden eagle if keep eyes open n roof down

Did a lot of that route last year and was a little disappointed with the section around the top of Scotland with quite a few single track with passing places and camper vans on the road , fantastic scenery though . I t won't stop me going again this year but will not venture much further north west than Ullapool. Had five trips up there year after year on my Kawasaki there are some brilliant riding / driving roads up there, Glen Coe, Mallaig, and the road to Skye to mention a few .

So you told her you were going to Scotland and she packed her wellies. :D
Its not always raining, Im sure there was at least 4 dry days last year :)
