Anyone done Ireland as a roadtrip ?

If you are going to do Ireland, I can recommend County Cork! Especially the most southern parts and the peninsulas.

One of my favourite roads ever is the Ring of Beara that runs through Bantry! Lovely roads. Everything takes forever to get to, but so nice! Especially early spring (April) time!

I did 2000 miles in 6 days around there just over a year ago. Really wanna go back!

Arghhhh !! I have done 2 southern Ireland trips. one in a Saab, the other in an MX5. Both times we stayed in Kinsale for a week in the middle of the trip. Fantastic scenery and very friendly people. Went into a small shop to buy fishing tackle....Turned out it was a pub...that also sold fishing equipment ! it would have been rude not to try the Guinness  Came staggering out into the sunshine a few hours later to be met by a screech of brakes and two mini buses pulled up , disgorging armed troops ! OH Sh*t what have I done. It was the armed guard for the money delivery to the bank. :o

Be careful if you do The Ring of Kerry. All the tourist busses go around in one direction. I went around in the opposite direction in the MX5. It seemed that there was a bus waiting around every blind bend with the aim of wiping me off the road! You have been Warned !!
Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Well just been perusing possible ferry routes + costs whilst watching TG & unless i'm looking in the wrong place Ireland will have to stay on the "to do" list
I cross the channel usually Newhaven-Dieppe (4hrs) at least 5 times a year for under £100 return so no way am i paying £360 for similar crossing to the isle of Guinness :(
Any pointers welcome otherwise its time to hunt down some haggis

That's a shame as I quite fancied a crack a Ireland in the not too distant future, either with the Z boys or with the Mrs.
Anyone got any cheaper solutions for Welsh ferries to Ireland?

Wow - that's gone up a bit :(
I paid about £240/250 last September and that included a flexible ticket (Cairnryan to Larne)

Mr Wilks
Have you tried the Direct ferries comparison site?
I've just put a week in March in the search and they are all coming out at £189/200+

Had a really nice 2-week roadtrip quite some years ago. We took a flight to Dublin and drove clockwise to Waterford, Cork, Killarney, Limerick, Galway, Sligo and Donegal. We especially enjoyed Killarney as a base camp for single day trips to Ring of Kerry and Dingle.

If you have tesco vouchers they trble up for stenna line & irish ferries. Look out for 5 day specials / offers on either one of the ferries. It's great crack der been many a time to Dublin and have driven through Wicklow. Wexford, Waterford, Cork and went to Dingle to see Funghi he looked a bit grey
Want to take the zed but would be wary in some parts of Dub! :fuelfire:

I did in a Citroen BX 1.9 TD around 26 years ago :o . Camping.
Every one was super friendly + accommodating . The scenery changes each 50 miles
Galway scenery. Cork 'the Crack', Tralee and that area, coastlines to die for..................very enjoyable
