I'm thinking about a move to Richmond. I will need to get the train or tube to the City every day. Does anybody do this and if so is it a battle to get on the train or tube in the morning,..or do you get a seat easily ?..and how long does it take to get to Waterloo overground, or maybe Monument on tube ? I have checked the TFL website etc, but real experience might be better than their estimates of jourey times.

It's pretty easy. My other half will get District line to Monument and she works in King William St or sometimes overground to Waterloo, and then city line. But she leaves in morning at 6.45am......

Everyone in my house does it, one works at London Bridge. If you get the right overland (stops in Clapham Junction and Vauxhall only IIRC) you can be in Waterloo in under 30 minutes....if you get the one that stops more often its a bit longer. District line is about 35 mins to Embankment, so you can judge from there. The District terminates at Richmond so the train starts off empty, never not had a seat from Richmond

fast overland from starts from Reading, When I use the train in the morning Im going the other way (Clapham to Richmond) but it is not normally too bad.

There are actually three kinds of train from Richmond ... on three different lines...

South West: Run three kinds of services..

Slow: Stops everywhere - North Sheen, Mortlake, Barnes, Putney, Wandsworth Town, Clapham Junction, Battersea Park, Vauxhall and Waterloo
Semi Fast: Calls @ Putney, Clapham Junction, Vauxhall and Waterloo
Fast: Calls @ Clapham Junction and Waterloo

OverGround: Real slow north london line calling all stations to Stratford

Underground: District Line

Quickest to Waterloo is the South West trains fast service which will take about 20 minutes

Thanks gannet.

Does anyone catch that reading train who can tell me if it's rammed full of people before it gets to Richmond ?

I sometimes get that train but I get on at Bracknell. By the time it stops at Richmond, it's normally standing room only

Never seen it so people can't get on. Its not the nicest train to be honest but it's a relatively short journey to Waterloo as it just stops at clapham junction where quite a few people get off the train

Yep I guess 20 mins stood up is not the end of the world. I've been spoilt where I am ... train leaves from my station and I have a hundred seats to choose from. Thanks for info.
