Anyone changed their own window actuator?

remove cable from one of the rollers , fit middle part where the motor goes, than put cable on the roller and twist it left or right and cable will slide over

Thanks Marius, that's not the problem though, those rollers are easy to get the wire to wrap around. The problem is the roller where the ends of the wires go, the roller that lives insdie the motor. I have gained access to it by drilling out the press fitting and can load the ends of the wires into their housing, however it still remains very tricky to get it all in-place and under tension like the video shows. I would hasten to add that their video does not show the motor assembly and how that is eventually attached to the regulator, bit misleading. Anyway, another day of hassle trying to get this to work...

Well done so far and I hope the re-fitting and adjustment goes more smoothly. Glad I paid someone to do mine though :|

Cheers dude. Right got the regulator all back together and under tension, not easy. So now just gotta fit it back into the door, wish me luck!!!

Trust me DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS YOURSELF. I've got it all back together, tried it up against the car door and it's not even anywhere near close to fitting. I've just aligned the old cables up against the new kit and they are not the same, seems like a duff kit to me?! Will now have to contact the supplier to see if I have done something wrong, but I'm positive the kit is short or that it has been assembled with the shorter cable in place where long cable should be. Totally fucking pissed off with this, car's in pieces, I've had no lunch, fucking waste of time. Warning: DO NOT DO THIS JOB YOURSELF!

sounds like you have done it wrong

It does sound like that and I was frustrated yesterday. However I swear the kit is wrong, have a look at the photo and see if you can work out what is wrong? I think the kit has been put together incorrectly, isn't the length I've highlighted meant to be shorter? Also the two lengths that do the figure of 8 are too short ?

Right just to clear things up a little. They did send the wrong kit, hence me pulling my hair out and the fffing and blinding! I called them on Monday told them what I had done and sent a photo and they sent a new kit out today. Just tried it up against the previous kit and I was RIGHT, the kit was completely wrong on both sides, too short on the figure of 8 and too long from the cable highlighted above. So now hopefully all will go back together and I will have a working window. Thanks for all your replies and advice, Charlie ;-)

Good luck getting it back in Charlie. Mine is being done by the local BMW specialist on Monday at a cost of £247..........ouch!!

I felt your pain all the way through this thread... it was a nightmare of a job even with the right parts... and then to find it was the wrong one as well... that sucks! Hopefully you will get the new one in easier!

That was my chosen method when it bust for the second time! Worth all the money when you come to try and line the window seals up!

Wait to you here this! The second kit they send out doesn't fit!!!! :headbang: I'll try one more time with them and if all else fails it will have to go to BMW cos' I'm just pulling my hair out with this job. It's not like I am a novice with cars, I have restored classic cars, modified modern ones, but when you get faulty parts you my as well just headbang all the way... :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: Now you see why BMW charge 250, they just replace the whole kit, they don't piss around trying to replace the cable, the whole thing comes out, rails, motor the lot. Oh well, I'm this far into it now...

Quite a few people I know bought replacement cables and none of them had issues whit fitting.

Lucky for them, really lucky, cos the kit's I've been sent DO NOT fit, simple. I've phoned the supplier this morning and they are giving a full refund.
