Anyone bought one of these cheaper Smartop modules?

Well, I did follow your advice in 2005 (?) to buy the P Zero Nero tyres, was a great improvement on the 3.0

Talking of modification, i'm thinking of anti-roll bars as my first mod, or changing to a 35is.......(have to try one first to see the difference between normal suspension and the electronic dampers.

Change the car to 35is or change the suspension to that of a 35is?

Well, that is a must :)

Its a good idea to see the cost in getting the suspension upgraded. think i'll wait to drive the 35is first. its probably less that the hit i would take on this car give i've only had it a few months.

Soon you will be able to keep up with me on the next German trip (except for the 38 mpg of course :poke: )

I have to say that economy is not this cars strong suit!

what it does do well

1 sound good (really good)
2 go well (very well)
3 stop very well
4 handle better than the e85 ever could

normal hooning results in about 23.5mpg, which is about what i used to get out of the 335d when pressed really hard :D

Driven a 35is today, just not sure about having the DCT think i would rather have a 35i or 30i manual plus i couldnt get round having both paddles doing up and down! would have preferred to have right for up left for down just seemed unnatural. plus not sure i can run to the 20k step up from my E85 to the 35is!! Definitely need to fit a smart top though!

how easy is installation and set up?

Not sure on the paddle setup and the consistency. On my E70 X5, the left paddle is down, the right one is up - more logical in my mind.

I must admit that does phase me one bit. My 335d was this way and I got on fine with that. You just get used to it. The configuration of the paddles does not and should not detract from the whole experience of the 35i or 35is in my opinion. Stop listening to the press :driving:

I brought my smarttop module the same place as moonshine.

Yes expensive but it is easy to install and if you run into any trouble the support from the manufactor is suppose to be great.

I did a review when I fitted mine if you haven't already seen it.

Had my DCT 35i for a week or so. I wasn't sure about the DCT and steering paddles, good in traffic, takes the strain and is more relaxing .

I find it better to change manually when the traffic goes, but use the gear selector for up and down- more natural to me .

I need to get used to DCT ad my dream car is an MP4 12C, with no manual available - although it does have proper paddles ..,

Thanks for the comments all. Think I'm getting from this that the actual Smartop module is the way to go. If I want absolute piece of mind anyway. Looks like this one will be Ok, but given all the positives on the Smartop, guess it is not worth the risk.

I'm not listen to the press, I didn't know there was stuff about it in the press! :P
Just seemed really unnatural, however think I want a manual anyway, and the 35is was too much money as well!
