If the car is running ok and you're the best judge of that, then just cancel the light and get on with enjoying the car.... :driving:

The best advice on this thread.

Yea yea  seriously though, a simple 02 sensor fault trips fuelling problems which in turn screws your cat, it's a false economy to ignore it.

If it is a case of a 'bad cat' then this would be detected by a poor emissions result at MOT time then?

Possibly, but emissions tests often give more latitude than the cars fault code parameters so it could give a pass reading, but would still fail if it's got an emissions code light showing. In the USA some states now read the cars OBD2 for codes so cancelling the light won't get around it, I imagine the EU/UK will follow soon :(

Get a obd2 reader and check the real time values of the pre and post cat o2 sensors. The error code suggests a damaged cat but it could be one of the sensors.

Cheers all i have had a manifold replaced, two 02 sensors, software update, smoke test for leaks and a 40 mile run out connected to a laptop by one indy who said everything running as it should they couldn't understand it.

Tbh I could plug it in while driving but I wouldn't know what values etc to expect?

Confusion.... After looking at the pics I'm concluding that you are discussing a catalytic converter of some type....not Caterpillar Diesel engines or bulldozers. Because over her a Cat is a pussycat or a Caterpillar tractor etc and not something on a sports car. :? :?
