Thinking of going to Cuba in 2017 for a beech holiday with my wife, anyone been? any pointers as to best resort , area or hotels to go to.

I've been but so long ago I can't remember the hotel. Was nice but you could be at any hotel at in any hot country as they didn't let locals in the area.

Don't let that put you off though as its a really interesting country and some beautiful places to visit. A must is Havana. You can either do guided tours or just go for a stroll. We went for the stroll option down some of the back streets and that's where you see real Cuba. We even got invited into a locals home for dinner. Lovely hospitality even though we did end up getting food poisoning from the gammon. Lol.

Thanks Roundozo, will deffo be going to Havana for a trip, heard of the fantastic hospitality, just don't want to end up going to the wrong resort.

Yes, we went a couple of years ago. Stayed at the Paradisus Rio De Oro ... http://www.meliacuba.com/cuba-hotels/hotel-paradisus-riodeoro

Absolutely loved it and will go back at some point. The hotel was adults only. Food was great and the staff too. Lovely beach, pool etc. We went to Santiago and our taxi's were big old American cars. (Will post some pics up in a min) we also went to the dolphin park and it was brilliant. Dolphins are free to leave if they wish to but choose to stay. Great day out. We also went out on a speed boat trip, great fun.

Can't recommend the place highly enough. Saying that there will be Americans there now tho

I'll get some pics, hold on.

We went a few years ago, I loved it but my wife not so, so never been back, I would go back though.
We went here. https://www.thomascook.com/destinations/cuba/the-cayos/cayo-guillermo/iberostar-daiquiri/

Self drive speed boat tour is a must if its still going.

We went last year (Feb iirc) and we stayed at one fo the all inclusive resorts called Guillimero (I think!), it was part of a chain of 3 hotel complexes in the area.
It was fabulous, awesome beaches, swimming with Dolphins, spoeedboat hire, lots of diving and amazing beaches. Service in the resorts was really good and we will be going again for sure, probably one of my favourite places.
We did not even go to Havana as we could not be bothered, spent pretty much every day on the beach - perfect holiday :D

We went a couple of years ago and did a multi-location island tour, Havana for a few days and then one of the all-inc beach hotels. The island and people are brilliant, Havana is a great place to wander around and the beaches are stunning. Food can be hit and miss though and we had the full-on food poisoning thing so I'd say packing Imodium is a must! Otherwise excellent and a bit different....... for now
